Eurovision 2008
« on: May 19, 2008, 12:12:58 AM »

Eurovision is the highlight of my television viewing year. Anyone else watch it?? It has to be the funniest show on telvision. From the bad english of the presenters to the cheesy dance routines, sequins and overly enthusiastic poppets delivering the voting results - it just couldn't get any better. It is best viewed while drinking copious amounts of alcohol.

That certainly seems to be Sir Terry Wogan's approach... watching him getting shitfaced is probably the best part.

However, I'm very disappointed by the fact that Bill Bailey's Australian tour means he can't represent the UK this year. That would've been nuclear-grade awesome.

I think Romania passed the semi-finals. Although i fail to see how, both song & performers suck big time (Nico & Vlad Mirita - "Pe-o margine de lume" - which could be translated as "on the edge of the world" or sth like that)

Spain were robbed. Any song inclusive of robocop should be an instant winner. Bosnia/Herzegovina probably would have fitted in nicely with the brigade - I liked them too. As per usual the winning song sucked - but what's new >:D.

nooooooooooo!!! It isn't Eurovision without Terry Wogan. They tried using an aussie commentator here instead of him a couple of years ago, people rang and complained and they had to rebroadcast the whole thing the next day with the original Wogan commentary.

He is right though, it is no longer a contest in any way shape or form. There has allways been political voting but since the break up of the Soviet Union it has become a farce. If the UK entered next year with Radiohead, Ireland with U2 & Germany with Wumpscut, they would still come last.

It's still some of the best entertainment you'll see. I'm sure Russia will have some entertaining hosts next year. Maybe some more lines like "Good for weddingor funeral!"
And Wogan is only threatening that because he thinks he can make a difference with his protest. He'll be back for as long as he lives to. And after that they'll have a machine to do is various ramblings.

Hmmm a WoganBot. I like this idea.....

I am now suffering the after effects of forcing my husband to watch Eurovision with me. Every year for about a week after the broadcast he rings me from work with a bad eastern European accent saying "Hello Sherona this is Bayswater calling" (He works in Bayswater) He thinks he is hilarious. I will admit it was funny the first time he did it, 8 years ago!!
