I honestly think “theatre” just sounds much more theatrical.

Plus, I always associate “theater” with the place and “theatre” with the art. Thought this is probably just weird foreigner-thinking.

Sadly, this is true. I would "Like" it if there were a button. I prefer "re" myself but agree that Americans will be baffled. I myself am baffled as to why theatre/er is evil anyway?!?

I'm American, & I picked 'theatre' because I've always spelled it that way. I'm not sure where I picked up the habit.

I just like the way "Theatre" looks better. Perhaps that's because I grew up with it that way, but it's definitely my preference.

I must confess that, as a French, I'm still quite puzzled to see "Theatre" being spelled like that. Seems like a trap, so that we are tricked into pronouncing it like we do in french. And then, the teacher can yell at us for being ignorant fools *paranoid*
Therefore, I voted for "Theater". I mean, it's how it sounds like in english.

I'm torn on this one. Theatre is more pretentious and thus more ironic in context, but I also usually associate theatre with real performance art and theater with both art and farce (ala "security theater) so I voted for theater. Perhaps the most ironic answer would be "Theat[re|er] is evil" as an even higher level of the sort "say-anything-to-get-elected theater".

I dunno, movie theaters can be pretty evil... very dark, other people's backs/heads/feet invading your personal space, floors covered with suspicious gooey substances, and then suddenly, LOUD NOISES!

ETA: Despite my attempts to reason this out for myself, I still voted "theatre."
