Indja, you can have a hug or a Guinness [virtual either way]...

Which'll it be?

I'm just kidding!   ;D  Have a virtual hug AND a virtual Guinness!   ;D

Miranda, I hope your neightbors' dog will be okay.  It is very normal for an injured animal
to be hostile, don't take it personally.  It sounds like you did the right thing.

^As an update to before, I handed in my last essays yesterday - which means I finished them on time and they weren't completely awful! - and then basically slept from yesterday early afternoon to lunchtime today. Already feel better. I also ticked "epic wank" off my list of things to do, which no doubt helped me relax a little xD

The baby I'm currently sharing living space with has learned to remove his diaper...it was well used.

^I'm sorry. Can you fix it?

@Topic: There is nothing that makes me feel quite so hideous and unemployable as applying for jobs that ask you to attach a photo. I know they wont bother with my application if I don't attach one, but I know they sure as hell wont hire me when I look like this:

I looked at their website and all their staff are really normal looking blonde and brunette girls with tans etc.
Even the supermarkets aren't hiring at the moment, so finding somewhere that's taking staff is really difficult and I hate that I'm lessening my own chances of finding work because of the way I look, but then I don't really know how to look like someone else.

1. Not helping, Indja....   >:(

2. What the hell kinda job (that a respectable young lady such as yourself would apply
to) asks for a photo with the application?

3. Okay, maybe Indja's not TOTALLY off base...   :-\
With the qualification that I am UTTERLY incapable of "smiling for the camera" without
looking drunk/insane/'special'.... Can you take/have-taken a new photo?  It seems to
me that it's not anything about you [sure some narrow-minded twits won't deal with
your amazing hair, but them], but the photo itself that's a mite unfortunate...
I'd offer to shoot you, but I'm rather a ways off.....
Remember, one of the great miracles of digital is that you can shoot a zillion images
and just chuck the ones you're not thrilled with.....

Lots of jobs ask for photos. Bar staff mostly, but also things like receptionist jobs and waitressing. We're at a point where there are sometimes literally hundreds of people applying per position, so they can be picky.
I guess I can probably do better than an angry-faced photo in my pyjamas in front of my curtains, but even if I get a good photo somehow that makes me look sane and employable, there is just so much more normal looking competition. A few people have suggested I colour my hair something natural, but I don't think it will help too much since I still don't look that normal with black/brown/whatever hair, and I'd feel even worse about not being able to find a job if I'd actively changed my appearance for it :(

I hate to say it but if you changed your hair and looked more "normal" you'd be giving yourself a better chance. To say that if you changed, there'd be more competition is a little untrue; you're putting yourself at an automatic disadvantage (in the majority of cases) by having green hair. And it's awesome green hair, I think it's really cool and I don't like that we are judged by something so fickle as our hair colour but we are and if you really need a job then it's probably something you'll have to compromise on.

That's not at all what I meant. What I mean is that there's already a lot of competition - I know a woman who advertised four jobs at her company and got around 800 applications. Even supermarkets and orchards aren't hiring at the moment, and they used to always have work. Most jobs going seem to be in hospitality, but they'll only hire people with experience in hospo, and I don't have any, except for cleaning hotel rooms for one summer six years ago. My friend who has brown hair and the most normal personal style ever, who has worked extensively in retail and hospitality, has had a total of one interview in the two months she's been actively looking for a job. If she can't find one, I'm screwed.

The point I was trying to make earlier is that if I have a next to nothing chance of getting a job now, having a natural hair colour will bring me up to an almost next to nothing chance. That very slim percentage may help, but it would make me even more miserable about the whole thing knowing that I'd changed myself and still failed, which is why I can't bring myself to do it yet, even though I probably should.

(Interestingly, my appearance wasn't an issue at the only place I've had an interview at so far, and their staff had even more piercings/crazier hair than I did. I guess I'm just hoping that more places like that will be hiring, or ideally that I can get a job where customers wont see me.)

^is there a way you could just personally go to bars (or wherever you want to work) and ask them if they need someone? and have your CV ready if they say yes? Then they immediately see that you are a nice and competent person who happens to have green hair and not someone who has green hair first and foremost (when they only judge your appearance from the picture).
