I had to have my big transformation today for the course/my job search. I can obviously wear my piercings when I'm not there or out looking for work, but I had to change my closed lip ring to a stud so I can easily remove it for these things. I've had it in for months, and putting a straight bar through a now curved hole is really uncomfortable! Feels weird man. That didn't bother me much, though. What bothered me was having to spend $30 on bleach and toner to remove my beautiful green hair. The store didn't have my usual bleach, so I had to get a different brand, which resulted in my first ever bad reaction to bleach. It burned so much my scalp and neck are all red and painful, but my hair didn't fall out, so that's good. Initial result was bright, fluorescent yellow. Then I put the toner in and it's a little too soon to tell (still wet) but it's looking like a bit of an ash grey. I honestly want to claw my neck off right now. Getting my first bad bleach reaction like this is a sign it was not meant to be.
Also, despite referring me for this course, the unemployment office apparently didn't realise I was taking it, so now I have to get the course people to email them something so they don't cut my benefit. They called me to tell me this while I was at the store, then I got home to a letter saying that even though I've been looking for work and even though I'm training, and even though I just made a drastic overhaul of my appearance in order to find work, they might cut my benefit from $240 a week to $95 next month anyway. Never mind that I have $145 rent to pay each week and can't get out of the lease right now.
On the bright side, an old friend of mine came over and bleached and dyed my hair for me, and was generally supportive about it, which helped.
