HOLY SHIT!
My sister just received an email from the former Program Director of the college station that is nearby here - my sister contacted her over the summer about us maybe joining their station - because once we graduate in May, Penguins in the Desert will need a new home.
Long story short - she sent the email saying that she thinks saw us at Amanda Fucking Palmer's NYE show in NYC (and at a showcase during CMJ in October) - and offered to personally give us a crash-course in how to get a show at that station. I don't know how she recognized us because to my knowledge, we never met.
HOLY FUCKING SHIT.
I love AFP and AFP fans and passionate radio people that love AFP!
Your fame precedes you...
...but if "once we graduate in May, Penguins in the Desert will need a new home,"
how can you get a show at another college radio station?
I'm not sure if I understand what you're asking.
"College Radio"... Is this not the radio station at the college?
If you must leave your current station when you become no-longer-a-student,
how can you have a show at a college where you were never a student?
Many people at WHRW are either alumni or community members.
Also, many people at the other station still have shows after they graduate.
It all depends on the station's policies about alumni, or 'community members' - because both stations have licenses that are held by the State University of New York (just different universities), technically NY state owns them and I pay taxes so damn it, if they let me I can be the old creep there*
* by old I mean 21 year old, by creep I mean the cool twin with an amazing taste in music.
College radio... just to refer to the type of broadcasting it is - on a station owned by a college and not a corporate or commercial company.
