if you're thinking pastel, shades of canary or something bright like that, please stop now. Not only is it butt-ugly, but it also immediately adds 10-20 pounds to the wearer. I've seen it happen.

My best friend can rock golds and deeper yellows, but she knows to stay away from the light stuff.

No, I'm thinking sort of gold/amber. Deep yellow rather than the harsher kinds. Not that I don't love canary yellow :) AND LOOK AWESOME IN IT.

I just talked to my uncle on the phone. I haven't been able to talk to him since he had a stroke 10 weeks ago and when I saw him then he was in a coma. He still can't walk or use his right arm and his speech is only just starting to come back. He still managed to make a few bad dick jokes though.

Best of luck.
It varies a lot from case to case, but there can be an amazing amount of recovery with time and therapy.

What Cee said. I'm glad he seems to be in good spirits, though, it's a good sign :)

i was in a shitty mood yesterday at work because we weren't allowed breaks because we were 'so busy' but my boss said he'd take us out for a meal to make up for it but i don't especially want to go.
SO ANYWAY i was on the till all day and me and my friend/colleague/whatevz were just taking the piss the whole day, it was wonderful. we made so many customers laugh and got so many tips, and my boss took notice and said that maybe we could be more ourselves with the customers, because it was obviously working, which is ace because recently they've basically been telling us to be more and more rigid and efficient and robotic and it was really depressing.

victory!

I found this out yesterday, but I'm still smiling about it: after a few years of discussion, the City of Detroit has gone and made lanes of several major thoroughfares bicycle-only lanes. I had no idea that the (very tentative last I heard) plans had been approved - I hadn't been in the city proper in 11 months, and seeing the dedicated lanes pretty much everywhere I went from Midtown southwards was a very pleasant surprise.

May not sound like much to you, but this is Detroit - the automobile's been king here for a hundred years, and most of the city was just as unfriendly to bicyclists as...well, as most of the suburbs still are. Hopefully, this will spread throughout the region.

Well yeah, after half the population moved away looking for jobs, and half of the ones who are left
can't afford gas to run their SUVs & muscle-cars, they had a lot of extra pavement.....

exactly...but it should've been done at least 20 years ago, when the 1950s-level population had already declined by half.

Detroit had about 2 million living within the city limits 60 years ago; it's below 700k now.

Today was a pretty good day! I woke up early (for me. It was still morning!) and checked my emails. First email: my grant cheque had come in and I just needed to collect it. So I'm £800 up which is obviously excellent news. It was also really sunny so I wore some shorts and when I put my hands into the pockets, I found the bank cards/student card I'd lost a few weeks ago. I've already replaced the bank cards but it would have cost me £10 to replace the student card that so far I didn't have, until my cheque came in. Well now I don't need to replace it! Also, I found £10 that I'd forgotten about so today overall has been a wonderful day for money.

^Welcome back!!

My day was made by the delivery of a dress, a leather jacket and a pair of boots I ordered, and of an essay on the penal laws in 17th century Ireland that got 75%! That's a first, and the first first I've got since my first essay got a first xD That was church history as well, I think I might have to reconsider doing a history-based dissertation in the face of such evidence. I do love history...

Also, my best friend's fiancé just told me that as a surprise for her he's getting a second, secret cake in the shape of the Death Star, and with Han and Leia on top :D Soooo jealous!
