Celebrity RIP
« on: May 30, 2008, 03:26:02 PM »

After a busy week of such sad news, I was gonna ask who was in charge of creating
celeb obit threads, and it occurred to me that we could probably do just as well with
one thread and update it, no?

That said, in the Shadowbox Dead Pool, who had...?:

-Sydney Pollack, Academy-Award winning filmmaker (and actor...)

-Harvey Korman, damn funny actor

-Alexander Courage, who wrote the theme music to the original Star Trek TV show, and a lot of stuff you'd
never have guessed he had a part in...
-and Joseph Pevney, who directed (among other things) several episodes of the same series, including "City
on the Edge of Forever", guest-starring Joan Collins, and the classic "The Trouble With Tribbles".

I also neglected to mention the passing of Dick Martin...

He peaked a bit before most Shadowboxers' time, but he was pretty funny...

Condolences too for friends and family of artist Beryl Cook who died on Wednesday, known for her trademark saucy paintings of larger-than-life buxom women.

Sounds like my kind of person...  liked to see people having fun dancing and whatnot,
but didn't feel comfortable joining in.

I am so upset over it.  I LOVED The Carol Burnett Show!  It was my favorite as a kid... I used to carry a mop all around my house pretending to be her.

Admittedly, not someone I listened to very often, but he had style.

I thought the same thing (the not listened to), until I read the article about his life. It turns out I've been listening to his influence and style nearly my whole life. He invented a beat for gawds sake.

That's pretty much what I meant.  I don't own any Bo Diddley recordings, but you can't really
get away from Bo Diddley, even if you don't realize it.  (And once in a while, the pure source
stuff is fun...)
