5th human foot found in BC's Georgia strait?
« on: June 18, 2008, 04:28:50 PM »

For the 5th time in 11 months, a human foot has been found floating in the Georgia strait, which is the body of water between Vancouver Island and the rest of British Columbia. No bodies to go with 'em, just feet.

3 words: what-the-fuck?????????????

Theories?

I am thinking it is the remains of a snuff/foot porn ring operating on a yacht in international waters. The yacht sank and now all the dead feet are washing to shore.

You'd think the odds would be against a six to zero ratio of feet to other body parts.

Nerds immerse themselves in a variety of activities that displace social interaction and development. X-Files was actually pop-culture.

What you are defining I call a "geek". I see nerds as just passionate, not necessarily anti-social. They get stereotyped into specific genres, but there are definitely sports nerds and NASCAR nerds.  :)

I am seeing this as reversed. In the past, I saw them as both meaning the same thing, but terms like "beer geek" and a host of other hobby specific geek terms have changed the connotation.

I heard a report that the police forensics folks think they're the feet of people who died
accidentally (fell in the water and drowned or something), and as the body decomposed
in the water, the foot ("feet" in one case) were kept afloat by the athletic shoes that all
of these found-feet have in common.  After that, the current caught them, and the only
reason they're finding so many in this one place is that people in that area, who would
otherwise have simply ignored an old sneaker floating past, now haul the shoe into the boat.

Apparently there's no sign that the feet were forcibly or mechanically separated from their
respective ankles, so the forensic scientists think they simply rotted off.  (Mmmm, tasty!)

I don't get it..... like usual. You're too clever for me.

I find the odds of just feet washing up and them not being severed on purpose hard to believe. It might be used as an excuse as to curb panic in BC. I wish I found one of those feet. I'd definitely take pictures. It is just my luck this happens on the other side of the country.

Actually, while I don't necessarily accept that explanation unquestioningly, that part at least makes sense...

With apologies for the gross-factor:
When a person drowns, their body floats for a while because of gases produced during the decomposition
process in the abdomen.  Once those spaces are too rotted to hold the gas in, the body sinks.  Most of the
things people wear and carry will also sink, if not immediately, after a while in the water when they become
thoroughly waterlogged.  Most athletic shoes, however, usually have a rubbery, non-degradable sole, with
lots of buoyant foam cushioning.  Thus, the person drowns, bloats, floats, sinks, then rots on the bottom.
After a while, they start to fall apart, and their shoes float to the surface, possibly taking the foot with.
Go to any river near any city, and you can probably find a number of sneakers that are either floating or
that have washed ashore.  in most places, no one but the trash man gives 'em a second glance.

I know all that... I'm saying the odds of six different feet showing up all around the same time by sheer coincidence is very small. I just find it hard to fathom. If one or even two washed up... ok... 6? 6!

I was reading this and got into conversation with a friend about it and he told me about the case of this child who was found in the river thames in 2001, so we looked up some articles.

three articles about a young boy found in the river thames in 2001:

I think they found a woman in glasgow who had something to do with this in 2002.

Hm. I've seen sneakers on the beach plenty of times... with something organic looking sticking out of them. I have actually spoken of the apparent phenomenon of conch housing themselves in hijacked sneakers. Looking back, that didn't make as much sense as feet. I suppose I would have figured it out (one way or another) if I'd applied a recipe I learned years later.

CONCH FRITTERS

Serving Size : 5

     1/2           Cup Celery -- chopped
1/2       Medium Yellow Onion -- chopped
1/4       Medium Green Bell Pepper -- chopped
1/2         pound Conch Meat -- ground
  1              whole Egg
  1              Each Egg White
  2        Tablespoons Milk
     1/4   tablespoon White Wine
     1/4   tablespoon Tabasco Sauce
  1          Teaspoon Worcestershire Sauce
  6        Tablespoons Flour
     1/3           cup Italian bread crumbs
     1/4         ounce Granulated Sugar
  1          Teaspoon Baking powder
     1/4     teaspoon Salt
     1/8     teaspoon Cayenne pepper
     1/4   tablespoon White pepper
     1/3     Teaspoon Italian Seasoning
2        Tablespoons Parmesan Cheese -- grated

Mix all ingredients together in mixer with paddle. Or mix by hand.

Put all ingredients in before turning on...do not overmix...do not undermix

Refrigerate for 2 hours. Deep Fry at 350 F. Use ice cream scoop, do not make too big.
They will be fairly dark in color when they are done.
