Doll that I made for Amanda in NYC 7/28
« on: July 29, 2007, 06:01:37 PM »

So yeah, I have been bed-ridden for quite some time, and I was bored out of my mind being away from my easel..... In order to pay for some of my medical bills, I had to sell my childhood doll collection..... I had tons of 1980s Cabbage Patch Kids stored away (still in their boxes.)  For some reason, I had this brunette doll that no one ever bid one...... I listed her 4 times and not one bid.  She was the only one that I had left.  I decided to do something special with her........... I transformed her into a "friend" for Amanda to take with her to Scotland....... I cut her hair, painted her, and made her an outfit (all but the shoes, which I bought) similar to the one that Amanda wore at the True Colors show in NYC (when I first left the hospital to see her.) I even gave her a pony !!!!!  I took this photo of her in my studio right before I packed her up to gove to Amanda yesterday.  Not only did the doll make both Amanda and Katie laugh, but the doll was placed at the front table of The Mercury Lounge for all to see (for the entire evening !!!!!)  For a doll that no one wanted......(sniff, sniff) she sure is lucky now!!!!!!!!!!!!  Enjoy !!

Love, Hayley

Wow,thats pretty creative and sweet.
I used to have a little cabbage patch kid that could go in water.
I guess it's a good thing that one of them didn't sell and I hope you're a bit better now.

It really is a cute doll. I normally dislike them but I'd gladly tuck that one alongside my small (but loved) collection of dolls, figures, etc.

Thanks so much !!!!  Yeah, I was one of those kids that never was allowed to play with certian toys....some were "just for display.."  Ironically, I had a whole 80s toy collection that was still in packaging, Rainbow Brite, Care Bears, Wuzzles...... you name it.......and I sold them ALL !!!!!  IT BROKE MY HEART, but I sure do have more space now !!!!!  Thanks for all of your sweet notes !!!!!

That is adorable. And so sweet of you! You're very creative!

I want one of those. Hehe. They should sell them in the merch store.
