I couldn't delete mine, because, unfortunately, it's how everyone seems to communicate these days. So without it, I would miss many birthdays and would never see any friends because all plans are made through facebook.

it was really sad to see though that when i disabled the visibility of my birth date i received almost no birthday wishes. that showed me how little most of my online friends knew me. plus twitter started gaining ground and i also had further contact info of all the people that i wanted to keep in contact with, so my decision to delete my facebook was quite easy.

i don't criticise the network, but it really didn't work for me after a while

I hate putting stuff on Facebook. I'm always half sure people are gonna take things the wrong way. Also I get annoyed by people being massively passive aggressive on it, its very annoying.

Yep. Also, people always make one simple comment into a huge discussion thread, which is really annoying.  I wish I could delete my FB page, but what absynth said is true for me too. Many (most, actually) people I know plan everything through facebook.

Regarded the birthday thing, Im pretty sure 98% of those who wished me a happy birthday wouldn't have done it if it wasn't because of FB. I mean, I don't care much about it, I just think it is funny how they post their best wishes like if the knew already it was your birthday. At least, this year, I got two really kind messages from friends I miss.

I hate more how people use Facebook than the tool itself (not that I like it anyway). Which leads me to think about two little things:

1. How funny is it that ten years ago people used to laugh at those who kept a personal blog where personal things like "today I ate a really good dinner at John Doe's restaurant", or even "parting at my bff! how cool is that?", or even the passive agresive shit were shared. But today they all do the same thing and call you an anti-social if you dont have a profile on facebook, or that you should post more.

2. That these same people would think you are a weirdo for hooking your laptop on the local cafe power supply and keep writing/browsing there, but today they barely can keep a conversation in real life without checking their fucking phones every bloody minute.

Cheers!

I just watched Pan's Labyrinth again. I managed to stick to polite tearing up through most of it, right up until about 30 seconds out from the end when I completely lost the tear battle and tears started running all down my face and completely ruined my make up. So close. Good thing I'm alone in bed and it's 6am.

you are alone in bed at 6 am with your makeup on?!
also, crying is gooood.

Something my friends and I have started doing when we go out for dinner, is stacking our phones in the middle of the table. The aim is to go the whole meal without checking your phone, there are some exceptions like work related etc. And if you check your phone you pay the largest part of the bill. We do it that if you check your phone, you pay half the bill, and the rest we split between the others. If we all last the whole meal, then we just split the bill evenly.

is that a thing? because i've heard some people doing it here too, except in order to make it more challenging the first person who check their phone get to pay the whole bill.

That sounds like a really good idea.
I mean I'd probably end up paying the bill more often than not cause I check my phone compulsively. But a very good idea.

The idea is originally to pay the whole bill. But because it's normally a large group of us, it gets quite expensive, and some of us are poor students. So half is fairer.

luckily i don't buy any internet plans for my phone so if i'm not in an area with free wifi i can't go online, just receive my emergency calls and text messages, and i rarely do either one. when i'm at home i'm spending lots of time online, but when i go out i simply unplug.

Wow, that's a great idea. I'll totally try it with my friends and brother. It has recently become impossible to have a conversation with some people without getting interrupted by a text or phone-check.

I think this is a cool idea, too. As someone who rarely if ever replies to texts/calls, I'm not sure how I'd pitch it to my friends, though ;D

Just cleaned up my room for the first time in two weeks. Put on new sheets and everything. Sometimes I forget that I actually like a neat room. I was feeling a bit sad earlier, and now it's gone, yay for cleaning up!

that is a really cool idea. I will see if I can apply it here. I know people who'd be always paying half the bill.

Ive heard of a restaurant that give discounts if a client does not check or use its phone, specially during meal.

This. It sounds like you are not worth their attention or time. I get really annoyed with that, with subtitle change on humour sometimes.

Yes, it really feels like they don't give a damn about you being there. People keep texting and tweeting about how much they're enjoying their moment, but actually they are not even there. They just quickly eat their dinner and go back to their own world. It is so disrespectful and offending.

I know 3G is quite useful, but it really fucked people's social lifes.

I've been in a really foul mood lately for some unknown reason. But I got in my car, turned on my iPod and the music that started playing just lifted me right up, so I drove home with the window down, singing my lungs out. It felt great.

i've done that countless times too. i have The killing Type and Want it back on repeat and combined with the speed and the air flowing in from the open windows, it make me feel filled with so much energy and will to do anything and at the same time it calms my nerves. especially when the instrumental part of Want it back, that was used as an intro to the kickstarter video, comes in, i tear up from joy everytime.
i've beeen following amanda for years now, but i've always felt a bit left out because i couldn't afford to join in the whole experience of buying amazing bundles. i always went for the simple cd and a shirt options. also it killed me that i was planning to see her live and my plans always fell apart.

this year though i've treated myself into following her 100%. i pledged for exactly the bundle i wanted, i got my tickets to see her live, and i've kept my eyes open for any source of amanda awesomeness that i can get.

this is a very exciting period to be an Amand Palmer fan!
