Combing is gentler on your hair, brushing tends to tug at hair and damage it more. Combing is slower and more deliberate and if you tug at your hair too much it tends to hurt.

I should get a comb, then, I suppose. I've got a thin tooth one for my bangs, but I doubt that would be adequate.

I'm dealing with long hair for the first time ever and it is so irritating. (i used to have long hair when i was about 15-17 but my approach was to wash it, brush it then ignore it for the rest of the day so i wouldn't call that dealing) When I went to uni I had short green hair and that was awesome but I grew it out so I'd have options to do fun things like curling it. Mind you, short hair isn't that manageable, I used to wake up looking like wolverine. Bobs are the easiest to manage.

this is my general approach. often it goes in a ponytail or bun when I leave it down I play with it all day.

I love love love my hair stylist. It took me forever to find one I can tolerate, I'm like the pickiest person in the world. So I like layers and such so long as they're soft layers and not choppy layers. But I can't afford a haircut right now (even though I really need one - my hair is all lopsided because of growing out from the last cut I had), so I've just been wearing it pulled back. Which is what I do the majority of the time anyway because it pisses me off and it feels like spiders when it's down. I'm not sure why I actually love long hair, except that I can do more with it and I identify with it.

Bobs are so simple. I had a really nice bob for a while, and almost all I had to do was brush it. It was awesome, except I started missing long hair again. Curling your hair is overrated. It takes too much time and your arms get tired from being over your hair for so long and blerrgghh. Just chop it all off again.

I wanted a shorter layer around my chin or so. Instead of doing a layer all around she just cut the hair that hangs near my face short and it looked terrible (I froze up and had a bit of a panic attack). I had to tell her to cut more length off the rest (in hopes that it wold blend a little better) and it still doesn't match but I couldn't stand to go any shorter. so now when my hair is down I have this awful/weird curtain of hair just around my face and it makes my hair look really thin and is not at all flattering. She also dyed it darker but that mostly washed out within a week leaving my hair looking splotchy and gross and the red highlights I had her do are now fading into some weird watery color. it is just all around awful. It really upset me because I've been going to her for years and she know how touchy I am about my hair. When I called to complain about my color she talked to me like I was stupid & the whole thing was just really upsetting.

Well, shit. I hope you don't go back to her. Do you have anyone who can reccommend someone really good to fix it? That would probably mean going shorter, but at least then you could wear it down and be happy with your hair. And you can just use box color to fix what she did. If there are already highlights in your hair and you use a decent box color, it will still have dimension.

I'm certainly not going back to her. I mostly just pull it back or up and am waiting on it to grow out. I really don't want to go any shorter. I live in a small town so I don't have a lot of options here. I think I'm going to try ad find a salon in Houston.

she was so bitchy and I honestly just didn't want her near my hair again. I didn't wanna go and have them talk done to me and tell me it looked fine etc.. It wasn't a good fit for me anyway. They are sort of snooty and mostly cater to like well do to snooty ladies.

^ not particularly fast but you can't tell the ugliness as bad when it is pulled up so its alright
