My brain has been skewed for a couple of weeks now. I accidentally bought 2 copies of The Half Blood Prince instead of 1 and a copy of the Deathly Hallows. There fore I am stuck waiting until the used book store is open TOMORROW to take back the extra copy and cry at her feet for a deal on the 7th book, if she indeed has it. She should of said something when I bought TWO COPIES OF THE SAME BOOK but whatever, we were in heavy conversation about Jane Austen, 1984, and how books are slowly fazing to technological rule. Boo.

I tried to drink at a bar yesterday without my ID.
(edit: This may not seem horrid to you but I look 16. Though to my credit they know who I am and it was just that they've been prowled by the coppers as of late and didn't fancy giving the gal who looks 16 a break. I had, however, forgotten my purse which is a sign of my brain failage, and also I had to walk there in the drizzle rain from the coffee shop only to walk back in THE POURING RAIN so that I was soaked through and through and my jeans were still wet in the morning so I had to run out to the car in my undies at 6am (it luckily wasn't raining anymore) to get a clean dry pair of pants because we haven't emptied the car out of clean laundry WHICH IS LUCKY BECAUSE EVERYTHING IS LEAKY AND WET AT HOME. ERRR. okay I'm done)

And on a not-my-fault note, my sub polisci teacher looks like cartoon version of a college professor.
I really want my original teacher back, but it is kind of amusing to watch the comb over bob as he talks about the exciting world of voting.

Or maybe she thought you were buying one for you and the other for someone else.

.....And she signed the first class announcement with a smiley. Argh. This is college?

I took a 300-level history class once where the professor had us on a seating chart.

Seriously.   :uglystupid2:

I don't think college is for me. :/ I'm embarrassed to admit it, but this is like high school the sequel. I did horribly there because I didn't get any help, now I'm still not getting any help but it's more difficult. I have no money, no job, and I can't drive legally because of my stupid parents acting like everything is normal but I'm just lazy, so I can't go anywhere. I don't have any outstanding talents, and there's no "professional nice guy" career. I have no idea what to do.

Possibly THIS college is not for you....  ?

Perhaps you could transfer to....  I dunno, someplace different:
more/less residential?
more/less rigid academic structure?
...or just a different major even?

I've had some serious doozies at this school. I am pretty sure one day I'll get some kind of official mail from the school and college will be enclosed in quotation marks. I'm sure of it.

Thing is, I got my AA but to transfer to a Cal State, I had ONE MORE class to take. And I'm in the middle of that class now. And because being busy suits me and I freak out when I have time on my hands, I decided to take some extra classes that I don't need for fun (Motion Picture Appreciation, Psych of Human Sexuality) but now I'm getting majorly burnt out. I have an appointment at a Cal State on Wednesday and if I find that there is nothing more I can take for my major before I transfer, I think I'm gonna bow out of taking anything in Winter or Spring. Hopefully I'll get a second job instead...

Wel, it's already a community college, so unless I want to be a crappy mechanic or electrician, I can't get much lower than that, and I think I might be failing out anyway. I want to transfer to SFSU to major in Cinema, but my college doesn't have that so I can only get my general education, and I have to get 60 elective credits PLUS required classes to transfer to any State or UC. It doesn't help that the academic counselors screwed me over last semester by having me take three classes that I didn't need. This whole this is tied with a bow by the fact that I have pretty bad ADHD, and even though a psychiatrist has told my parents and PRESCRIBED MEDICINE, but they still think I'm just lazy. And the disabled (ugh, I HATE that it's referred to as that) services there are like, "Meh, we tried. Sucks for you."
I REAAAAAAAAALLLLLLLLLLYYY want to get to SFSU because I know I'll be fucking amazing once I get there and I hate settling, but my friend said that there's a pretty big market for potential bartenders down in New Orleans, and it's starting to sound pretty good.
I know I'm not stupid. I just have a difficult time doing things other people find fairly easy.

Are your meds working for you?  'Cuz ADHD frequently responds differently in different people to
different dosages of different meds...  I'm the last person to advocate better-living-through-meds,
but you might benefit just from a different scrip....

Oh, and if you've got it, USE IT.  ADA may provide you a whole bunch of benefits just because
you have a piece of paper that says you have ADHD.  Look into it...

...and probably most of all, Community College is very often exactly "High School II - THE SEQUEL"...
The idea is to provide either remedial or just extended coverage of high-school general education
material so that you can either go into the job market a little better prepared, or go to a 4-year
school able to write [whatever you're majoring in] papers with complete sentences and proper spelling...
(Yeah, they're supposed to teach that in high school, but somehow....)

This can be a big turn-off if you didn't really thrive in the high-school setting, suggesting that much
more that a regular 4-year school could be a better choice, especially if they'll take most/all of your
comm-coll credits...

Fear and Loathing, my brother has ADHD too... if you find anything that helps in school PLEASE tell me!! He's the last kid in a line of three fairly successful-in-school girls, and he's failing his classes and has significant substance abuse problems (thankfully he has not been arrested yet). My parents are overly reactive to all his problems, though, total opposite of yours, completely overbearing and "how-does-that-make-you-feel" inquistive... I can't really comprehend and help, and it hurts me to see him like that.

I do use it every day, but I think I need a higher dosage. My parents expect it to be a magical pill, which is stupid because they told me "now don't get your hopes up", and they act like I should be just like all the kids. This is REALLY, REALLY, REALLY, frustrating because my mom is a teacher's aide in a special day class where all but like, two of the kids have bad ADHD. I don't have the stereotypical symptoms like being just wild and crazy, all of it is my brain, so I'm a mild-mannered person and it just seems like laziness and just plain stupidness to the average person (including teachers). I've heard the "attitude is everything" and "maybe if you focused the energy on [thing I enjoy] as you did on your school work, you would be a good student" speech 495849854968459685468 times and counting. IT SUCKS WHEN PEOPLE THINK YOU'RE JUST PLAIN STUPID.

Oh, man, I am so sorry for him. :[ ADHD is so, so awful because a lot of people just blow it off as laziness and acting out because they can. I would suggest seeing a psychologist if he has a history of substance abuse, because I don't think a psychiatrist can legally give a patient anything if there has been a problem with that. I'm not 100% sure, but you can always ask. But the biggest thing is being able to talk to someone that will understand what he's going through. Not just like "Oh, man I'm sorry it's like that" but someone that actually understands the psychological and biological factors because it is extremely difficult to explain and have other people empathize. Best of luck to him and your family.

^  It's a damn nuisance (as you've doubtless noticed).
For best results, they/you should probably try a range of dosages/drugs, but every new
thing needs to be given a while to work, and the effects can be veeeeerrrry subtle.*

But yeah, in my sort-of-educated opinion, the key is far more likely to be found in accommodating
your psychological/learning habits than in trying to medicate you into someone else.

*(On the other hand, I student-taught a 5'9", 180lb 7th grader  :o who sometimes skipped his
lunchtime-dose of ritalin - I could tell because he'd usually be standing on his [or someone else's]
desk, playing with the light fixtures, when I got to the classroom...  NOT a subtle difference.)

I have an appointment with my psychiatrist tomorrow, and I will definitely go over it with her. :0 It's just been weird because I've had people say, "So and so said that Adderall was GREAT for her! And so did other so and so!" So I'm a little embarrassed when it does nothing.

hahah That is definitely not subtle.
Thank you :]

when my brother first went on meds, his teacher burst into tears and hugged my mother and thanked her profusely (in kindergarten, too...). At first it really wasn't a subtle difference, but now it is.
