So a guy I'm seeing was warning my yesterday to be careful not to get sunburned (which I did a little actually) but he didn't know how to say it in English so he said "don't become like a shrimp".

Sometimes I think people with broken English make mistakes on purpose to make themselves more unbelievably adorable.

I'd guess he is brazilian. If so, we have an idiomatic expression here where we say/call someone a shrimp when they get sunburnt. It is more a "lemme use an idiom from my language and see how that goes." than a mistake, in my opinion. (Not that it would make any girl less cute if she tried to use an english idiom when speaking portuguese)

ha in german, we become red as a crab/crawfish when sunburnt :)
in italy, it's red as a lobster!
lol this is too funny

He is, and that clears it up I guess. Still, unbelievably adorable.

I can picture that. I would find utter adorable if a date of mine would come out with "está chovendo gatos e cachorros" (it is raining cats and dogs) because we don't say it like that. Here we say something like "it is raining pocket knives" (está chovendo canivetes).

edit: though people barely say that anymore. more little kids and elder people.

^I used to translate English idioms into French whenever I was talking to my friend Elise all the time. It made her lol mightily. My favourite was les genoux des abeilles.

It is funny to make literal translation from english to portuguese when regarded to name of places, things, idioms. Same as for some brazilian idioms, but they are only funny if you know both languages.

I dont speak french, but I know is something from the bees.... (guessing 'cause abelhas = abeilles)

I've always laughed at that idiom, not that my native language has less weird idioms  ;D

Sometimes i don't give a damn about making mistakes while speaking English, because i see, though we have taken too much grammar lessons during the education, in daily life most of the native speakers don't care about such details.

When i first graduated, i used to speak English as if i was reading the sentences from a grammar book. And it used to be really weird, so i gave up being so careful.

Sometimes i translate English idioms into my language, idioms and slangs such as 'scare the crap out of smb' make people laugh hard.

We also use the poor (but delicious) lobster as our analogy for a seared sunburn...

^It's one of the best book-adapted series ever. Can't wait for thr 2nd season.

I've read the first book, i didn't like the narrating style though. Maybe it's because it was a translation, i don't know but it bored me to hell.

Aw, really? :p That's a little disappointing considering the show is so phenomenal.
I'm also very excited for the second season. I have a store meeting that night and I have a feeling that's all I'll be thinking about.

Definitely keep at the book. They get sooooo riveting. It may have been a problem with translation.

Yeah, quite possibly it's because of the translation. I heard they'd re-translate it. But anyway if i can find an original copy, i'll try to read it in it's original language.

Yeah, but as i said it might have been because of the bad translation. You'd better try the book yourself  :) I'll also try to find an original one.

As for the Se02 e01, damn we don't have HBO in the cable TV here :( So i guess i'll have to wait for it to be aired online.

Working on 'Save the Date' card designs for a friend.
She was like 'I like your work a lot, I'd love it if you did my invites/decorations and stuff!' and I was so excited and felt so honoured by the fact that they'd chosen me to do it that I forgot to consider the fact that I mostly do portraits and I'm not even that fucking good.

I want to kill myself.
