I'm having this weird ballet phase right now where I'm obsessing over videos of ballerina's breaking in their pointe shoes, going en pointe, and watching videos on how to improve foot flexibility. When I was younger I'd always point my toes because I wanted to do ballet, but then I learned that men don't really go on pointe. Ugh, so disappointed.

In other news, CISPA was passed a few days ago, which means the government is watching our every move. I'm sure the people in power are really excited to watch the porn I watch. I hope I'm making at least one of them smile.

Today's my day off, and aside from having to drive to work and back because the new manager locked 2 sets of store keys in the back room (I guilted her into gas money), I've done two loads of washing (which probably won't be completely dry tonight), baked a cake, made flat breads, and watched all the episodes of Weeds that I had recorded on the MySky.
I feel accomplished.

Every April since 2009, my late friend Sean's family throws a celebration of his life (he died in a traffic accident in November 2008). Today's the day...it's always a really bittersweet experience; he was a singer/songwriter on the local scene and sooooo many people not only knew him, but did gigs with the guy. It's always fun to see 'em all (a few have moved away over the past few years, and for some of them, this is the only time they get to come back to the D each year), but it sucks more with each passing day that one of the scene's biggest boosters - and the biggest mentor to young musicians this city had - is gone.

:(

turned out to be a great day.  :glasses9:

I have a phone interview within the next hour. They said between 10 and 11 and I was all "ok!" even though I knew how awful my sleeping pattern is. While writing this, they rang. It didn't go as well as I may have liked, I had to take little breaks to think about what I wanted to say but no biggie. I find out really soon as well, but it's a full time job soooo I'd quite like that.

They're not Jewish by any chance, are they?

Am I the only one who thinks Facebook is making people less sociable and communicable  [?] because they are using FB for everything socially regarded?  That is, people here are creating events and all that shit instead of using the fucking telephone to call people, send emails or SMS, or even talk through IM.

Seriously, this annoys me.

Yeah especially the events being opened for the weddings. Seriously wtf  :-\ what happened to those beautiful invitation cards? They used to make the most amazing souvenirs.

When somebody sends me an event for their wedding instead of at least calling me on the phone to simply say hi and invite to their wedding, no way in hell i attend it. I did that to one of my very best friends. We have spent the best years of the uni together, and were mostly like sisters. Anyway as she didn't give a damn sending an invitation card to me in the mail, so i refused to go to her wedding. So i just sent some foliage plant along with a congrats card.

That was what she deserved, and i don't care what she thinks about it, because as her best friend i just got an event request from the facebook while she was sending/giving 500 invitation cards.

There's a whole long discussion to be had on this one.......

As I see it, in short, FB is a great social tool, and can be used to communicate with your
friends, to share interesting information, plan social events and whatnot, but it can easily
become a SUBSTITUTE for an actual social life, and that may not be such a good thing.

Liking a status isn't the same as actually having a beer/coffee with someone and chatting face to face. I have a couple of friends who seem to live their whole lives vicariously through people on FB. They never actually go out and socialise with anyone IRL but they are convinced that they are just as connected to these people as if they were regularly hanging out.

One of them created a FB event for their wedding and refused to send out invites. No one took it seriously and only a few people RSVP'd which left her parents and the groom's parents frantically ringing guests a week before the ceremony to see if they were coming or not.

I'll create an event for family stuffs just to keep everyone up to date in case of any changes (I have a very big extended family so it comes in handy) but I will always send out real invites as well. I still write snail mail letters and make phone calls too. I am a bit of an old fashioned frog.

^I don't often talk to people on the phone, that's really limited to Seamus and my mother, but it's always nice to have a chat. Snail mail is *awesome*, I'm all for it. I don't think FB and other websites will ever completely replace a 'normal' social life, they just sort of augment it. So if you're having a party or something, I tend to find that you'll have an event on FB, but that everyone will still text you to make sure xD I would never, ever replace wedding invites with something digital. It's such an opportunity for creativity and awesomeness, I can't believe anyone would. Gross.

I hate phones. I never answer calls and I avoid texting as much as possible. I love snail mail, though <3 Also actually spending time with my friends irl.

I adore snail mail but I don't send out as much as I would like :(
I've tried at various times to collect people to send letters to and sometimes it works but mostly I forget about 3 minutes after I've asked.

Anyway, my random thought is that I didn't get the job I had the interview for yesterday. They were super quick to get back to me though so that was good, and I didn't really think I'd get it anyway. Also, if I had, while it would have been good for my bank account, it would not be so good for all the trips I want to take. I know my priorities though, and work will come first should I need to make the decision but I'm quite excited about them all.

I'm the same. I think I actually owe you another letter, but everytime I try to write, I get distracted.

I used to hate phones, but as I've gotten more confident, they don't bother me so much.
