The first was, horrifyingly, a Barbie cassette tape. It was bright pink and told me I should dream big and party with my girl pals.

The first album I bought (and still like) was The Beatles' Rubber Soul.

I just remembered - my Aunty Miranda bought me Born In The USA when I was about 5. Does that count?

Weirdly, considering I was an 11-old when I bought it in 1994, The Best Of Marc Bolan & T Rex  :D

But did you heed the call to bang a gong and get it on?

Actually, wasn't The Power Station version out by '94?

I bought two at once with my birthday money when I was 8. I got the Rocky Horror Soundtrack and Alice Cooper - Welcome To My Nightmare. Both on cassette and both chosen because I liked the pictures on the cover and both turned out to be two of my favourite albums of all time.  :headbang:

OK, the first CD that was MINE, was the Lion King soundtrack, when I was like 6.
Then when I was like 10, I got Christina Aquillara's debut.
I don't particullarly remember the first vinyl record I bought, and actually, I think I got like 20 at the same time from a yard sale including The Beatles, Janis Joplin, Elton John...

What a gay little kid I was, Elton John-Christina Aquillara-Elton John....

But Elten John is such a bad ass!  I guess the Christina Aquillara doesn't help the argument, but Elton John can be forgiven.

...The soundtrack to Batman Forever was my first.  I was a sucker for the song *I got kissed by a Rose".  lets see, that movie came out in... 95? 96? So I must have been 7 or 8... that's weird.

Why is it that no matter how hardcore you are, no matter how "punk with sharp spikes and blue mohawks" or "goth with black lipstick and ankhs and woe-is-misery-is-me poems" you are, you still rock out to the Spice Girls.

Sure, but if one were to compare them side-by-side with, say, the Pussycat Dolls.... ?

For a prefab, eye-candy sort of a group, the Spice Girls were (are?  Did they get back together?) not so bad.
