Inspired by Grown Man Cry
« on: October 31, 2012, 01:32:01 PM »

So I've had a very purple/green/turquoise/blue image floating around my head since I first heard Grown Man Cry. (You'd think that'd be the case with Bottomfeeder, but nope) I think it's because I love listening to it when walking through dark streets in a dreamy state of mind. It just conjures those colours for me. Anyway, I thought I'd put it down on paper. Came out different from how I imagined, a bit more disturbing (didn't mean to make Amanda look so...umm, verbally abused?), maybe 'cause it was cathartic as hell to draw. So it was good fun, by no means technically impressive or anything, I just thought it's an interesting image to share, hope you guys agree!

Thank you Robin. :)

Well, firstly I used a super awesome pencil for Amanda's face that is 3 colours in one (red, orange & yellow) and ink to make out the details. I continued to use watercolour pencils but when I added the water it just didn't create as much punch as I wanted it to so I switched to oil pastels. I love just going mad with oil pastels, smudging, layer upon layer, not caring about details, the true messy medium. (for those who find paint a little TOO messy)

I might create something a little more gentle with the watercolours later, just need a less dramatic image. :D

I was thinking oil pastels but I wasn't sure because I'm not that familiar with them. It is definitely a neat image! I want to run my hands over it and feel the textures & flip it and see it from his perspective.

Aww, thanks dudes! Glad it looks how it sounds for you too, like I said, maybe came out a bit more violent than it was in my head, but hey, I guess that's art?!

Loving this, the colours are great. It's amazing how you got such a likeness to Amanda with only basic lines/features... a skill I envy!
