I was just at a party with a group of parents from my kids' school, who are all professionals in their 40-50s. When I mentioned Amanda's name, they started talking about the TED talk and how amazing it was. They couldn't believe that I was one of her fans and supporters and asked lots of questions. I blogged it here: http://rivervox.livejournal.com/11461.html
I explained twitter, kickstarter, the Dresden Dolls, Amanda & Neil (which made a psychologist swoon) and pontificated on the artist/patron model. It was really, really weird because one month ago, if I'd mentioned Amanda to this crowd, I bet no one would have heard of her. We're not a subculture anymore, folks!
I'd love to hear other stories about how the TED talk is spreading. Did your grandmother, professor, boss or hair stylist see it?
