What would you consider to be your most successful album, purely in terms of sales? Also your least successful?

Hello, Miss Amanda!

Not sure if you want to answer this, but I want to ask so here goes:
The symbolism you referred to in Neil's new (fabulous!) book -- the parts that were about you and made you do the V8 thing on your forehead? Are you willing to share any further info about that? I would love to gain a greater understanding of the book.

Hugs from Canada!

Any more work with Ben Folds in the future?

8 in 8 was fantastic.  As was Who Killed . . .

Would love to hear you two play more together.

Hi there,

What did you think of Jon Ronson's recent article about his time spent with you?

Any chance you'll be popping up to the Edinburgh Festival at any point this year for some ninja gigs?

Thanks.

well, we have the tour in australia & new zealand coming up (sept) and then again in november we'll be in europe.
after that...i'm going to take a break and it's honestly anybody's guess. if i were a betting man, there's not way i won't be playing with all of these people again in one format or another. but i'm not planning a big GTO tour after this novemeber shit wraps. i'm going to write.

that's REALLY hard to judge.
the dresden dolls debut has technically sold the greatest # of copies in stores - about 150k, or more - but that was back then before digital went wild. so it's really hard to say how many people have heard, say, the new album if you count streaming and youtube and burning and sharing and all that.

i've stopped trying to keep track.

right?

right.

You seem like the kind of person who could have been in my college German language classes.  In my opinion your awareness and favorable exploitation of "Brechtian" as a cultural thingie is what sets you apart from other singer/songwriters.  Am I overthinking this?

how does it compare performing somewhere huge like red rocks as opposed to the smaller venues you're used to? Do you still feel an intimate connection with the audience in a larger space?

In some of the earlier live recordings of The Bed Song, the bridge had a last line that didn't make it into the album version. When you played The Thing About Things in Denver, I also noticed that you cut some lines out — is it weird/hard to do that, or does it just seem natural when certain lyrics don't work?

i honestly like playing smaller, packed, places. more fun. but red rocks had it's own amazing magic, can't complain.how can you argue with a venue like this?

You said he'd tricked you -- and that's when you became a true Neil fan. (You never saw the V8 commercials when you were a kid when people hit themselves on the forehead with the palm of their hand because they missed the obvious thing. Sort of equivalent to "Oh, Duh.")

If money were not a question at all, what would you do differently? And perhaps more importantly, what would you keep doing exactly the same?

Kickstarter is sort of a decentralized version of the patron of the arts idea, but there is always the question of losing patrons' favor then or now. You talked a little bit about this at the Denver house party, and I am interested in the other side of things - not how you can interact with patrons, but how you can interact with a community with absolutely no requirement that anything ever be "lucrative".

posting a thread on the box (here, in touring) and then tweeting it is usually good. if i see those "anyone looking to meet up pre-show in machester? link" etc, i always re-tweet them.

How do you get back into the grove of writing/creating/art-ing when you tumble into mental blocks?
My current system is all in a kerfuffle due to lost and dying notebooks/computers right in the middle of trying to get back into things... and now I'm more stuck than before... Just need some inspiration, or a good swift kick.

i don't believe in regrets. i really don't.
i think everything is learning. i learned a TON. it's all information i'll carry along with me for next time.

i think it's the best album i've ever made and putting it out experimentally wasn't a mistake - it was a pick your poison scenario. if i'd put it out with a label i probably would have had an equal and opposite set of agonies.

are we allowed to make multiple questions?
If so, have you ever left any of your fave songs unpublished, just because you thought it was too similar to something you had already recorded?

do you have any regrets about the Kickstarter for Theatre Is Evil? anything you'd do differently if you could do it over?

p.s. it's easily one of my favorite albums of all time..i mean it.

i don't believe in regrets. i really don't.
i think everything is learning. i learned a TON. it's all information i'll carry along with me for next time.

i think it's the best album i've ever made and putting it out experimentally wasn't a mistake - it was a pick your poison scenario. if i'd put it out with a label i probably would have had an equal and opposite set of agonies.

totally agree..and certainly didn't mean to imply you SHOULD have regrets by any means! it's an incredible piece of work...inspires me to no end.

Legendary Pink Dots will be here in Dallas on October 5th, and I plan to see them for the first time. Do you have recommendations for a crash course into their music?

YES!!!!!
start with these albums, my all time favorites:

-the maria dimension
-the golden age
-asylum
-any day now

and then, if you're still seeking, move onto:

-from here you'll watch the world go by

somewhere on the box Amanda had also posted a playlist of her favorite LPD songs, and I found it incredibly helpful when I was just starting to get into their music

My thanks to Amanda + Sydney. I'll take your suggestions, and I will find LPD post on here. Very much looking forward to becoming more familiar with their music and the show in October.

How is your friend doing? The one Who was sick last year.

The Utrecht gig was awesome, and your new song was really touching.

If you wanted to take it off Twitter and Shadowbox completely, you could maybe do a Google Hangout... that'd be really interesting.

If you had to delete your twitter account or never blog again, which would you choose (from a connection/discussion POV and disregarding promotion/exposure pros and cons)

I couldn't find it here on the newest version of the sbox.  Might be here.

Might be on one of the earlier versions of theshadowbox.net
(TBomK - off-line for a while now.  SAD - lots of great stuff there).

A did do a blog on the LPD.
Near the end is a list of the LPD albums she suggest starting with.

Any plans to do more videos from Theatre is Evil?

we MIGHT do a st kilda video. if certain things work out :)
That would be excellent!

So I'm free to kidnap Michael Pope, throw him in my Civic hatchback with a camera, and drive from Lexington to Harvard Square to make Mass Ave?!?

Philistine ; - }

You really have to film from Lexington to South Boston,
where the south end of Mass. Ave is.

Bedford: apologies, but I just don't perceive you in this song.

What the limit these days to the number of people in a Google Plus Hangout?
Was 10 when they first opened.

You are correct. It is 10 at a time. Maybe should could limit each person to 2 questions and then they have to leave the hangout? Definitely an honor system sort of thing, but I think the AFP community could handle it.
