The Connection Economy & Our Community
« on: November 10, 2013, 09:30:15 AM »

This blog post by Seth Godin inspired me. It sums up a lot of the things Amanda has been saying and that we've been demonstrating in this community. Seth is a popular US writer/thinking/speaker on business and marketing but he's also a fan of what Amanda has been doing.

I find it odd that the ideas that drive our little band of misfits is now mainstream strategy. Do you? And do you think this will be taken up by the world at large and make a lasting change in How Things Work? Crowdfunding, connecting, trusting, BELIEVING.

The first lie...

is that you're going to need far more talent than you were born with.

The second lie is that the people who are leading in the new connection economy got there because they have something you don't.

The third lie is that you have to be chosen.

The fourth lie is that we're not afraid.

We're afraid.

Afraid to lead, to make a ruckus, to convene. Afraid to be vulnerable, to be called out, to be seen as a fraud.

The connection economy isn't based on steel or rails or buildings. It's built on trust and hope and passion.

The future belongs to those that care and those that believe.

The third lie is that you have to be chosen.

This reminds me of something Peter Gabriel once said about inspiration. He said that if he held a gun to you head and told you that he'd come back and shoot you if you didn't come up with one within a year, you'd create one.
