Count me in pretty please...? I would love to be involved.

I am making a bunch of masques for people to wear in character for the beginning of the show..... planned masks so far consist of jigsaw-face, tarot card/playing card.... chest of drawers type thing, dictionary face
plus a few more!

The masques you're working on sound amazing. Are you doing it all single-handedly??

Out of curiosity, would the pre-show stuff stuff happen inside or outside the venue...? Being stood on Camden High Street in a surreal mask with onlooking chavs is a pretty daunting prospect... But hey, I'm game!

I would GUESS either moving around outside (depending on whether we reckon there is going to be a queue... I know there was for Gogol Bordello but I vaguely remember that partly being because they opened the doors later than announced), or standing inside. I don't see STANDING outside as even logistically possible space-wise unless you want to get into everybody's way. Unless someone wishes to correct me on any of this.

I'm definitely still up for being involved in some way or another (as said. particularly as regards bubbles, I'm definitely game), the only issue being that I might not be able to make it from Cambridge to London until the evening because I'm pretty sure I have a seminar that day until 5.

The space outside the Electric Ballroom is very smaaaallllllll. I remember walking past it a few weeks ago and talking to Raliel about it and he said something about wanting to do stuff inside but I don't know because....Eh.
It'll all work out.
:)

I'm really, really looking forward to seeing these mask things though. And how everyone else looks on the night. It's very exciting.

The space outside the Electric Ballroom is very smaaaallllllll.

It's just the street, isn't it? *look of glee*

That's sort of what I love about the Electric Ballroom. It's such an awful, dirty, grotty place it just screams rock, and while it has its own character its so susceptible to absorbing the atmosphere of whatever is placed in there. It's much more of a blank canvas than KOKO.

I want to put bubble machines by the door if they will let us. Yes, I have a total bubble obsession but I find them one of the simultaneously easiest and most fascinating things to create atmosphere.

Hopefully we will be able to play the crowdlines and do stuff inside...... I might track down some cheap jigsaws and playing cards (hmmm..... odd notes written on playing cards seem familiar?) for handing out..... I  like the idea of handing out random stuff to the crowd

I really like this idea too. On new years eve i persuaded someone to do this with me out of total spontaneity - we watched the fireworks on the southbank, but also just roamed london handing miscellaneous items out to passers-by.
It actually worked far better than expected!
One thing that particularly seemed to go down well were these cards from an old board game. Each had a general knowledge question & answer printed on it - i think they were aimed at an age range of about 6-11 or something (things like "Q: what do you get if you mix red paint with yellow paint?  A: orange paint" across all the school subjects etc etc). People took them expecting us to be advertising something-or-other but seemed generally delighted when they read them. (Of course alcohol consumption had absolutely nothing to do with this.....)
We also handed out paper hearts (some plain & some with messages - excerpts from fairy tales, old wives idioms such as "a stitch in time saves nine"), glass beads, toy ponies, candles...
& blew bubbles.
I thoroughly back bubbles for the electric ballroom.  :D

Anyway, i have rambled hugely so i'm sorry if i bored everyone.

and, oh, the other thing i meant to ask about was whether anyone was doing / had thought about doing anything to promote the gig maybe a week or so before?
kind of flyering-combined-with-street-installation-of-human-art.
i have some ideas but i may be being overly ambitious with the amount of time i have at my disposal / amount of street space etc etc.

Yeahh!
Well the ideas rattling around my brain currently are as follows, so everyone feel free to throw in your opinions, ideas etc. As the aim here is to promote the show they do focus on amanda....

- The first idea is actually from my little sister. She thought that we could have several scenes arranged in a line, each one containing someone dressed as amanda & portraying a different part of her life / career, the last in the series being a dead-amanda. Other scenes might be an eight foot bride, a dresden dolls scene etc. These could be living statues, interactive or a happy medium between the two. But together the scene would form a chronology leading to the tragic demise of amanda.
Space, however, could be quite problematic here, as well as costumes, props etc as these would be fairly specific.

- Another idea was to have a kind of police line up / cluedo thing going on. Have "amanda" lying dead in the fore, covered in a veil, flowers etc (similar to outside koko), & then behind her have the police line up. The line up would be composed of people holding masks to their faces (yes, you inspired this one raliel...) & wearing a number around their neck with a number as in a real line up. Each mask would be a photo of anyone whose face is fairly well known in the media - say Rihanna, Margaret Thatcher, George Bush, Winnie the Pooh....   (could we get away with that?)
Other than that people could wear whatever they felt appropriate - although probably not something the person on their mask could wear. It would be quite cool for each potential murderer to also be holding a cluedo based weapon - a candlestick etc, but i'm not sure if that would work as surely we couldn't be brandishing large knives, although we could probably make it work even if the weapons got less & less likely! "Who Killed Amanda Palmer" would be chalked across the floor somewhere, & in addition to the statues people could hand out flyers advertising the gig.
I really like this idea, & it shouldn't be too hard to arrange, as well as leaving quite a lot of creative input available to everyone taking part. What does anyone think?

- Another idea would be to have someone narrating short stories  - each story a possible scenario of how amanda could have died, while a several people mime or hold a freeze frame - a different one for each story.
However - firstly this could sort of be "stealing the thunder" from amanda & neil gaiman's book before it's even released, AND, it would require short stories to be written, & choreography of mime acts to be planned so that they matched the times of the stories - so REHEARSALS, & costumes would be more specific too. In an ideal situation with limitless time & resources & space this would also include a small musical ensemble providing a dissonant, atmospheric underscore. But yes, this idea is somewheet impractical.

So um, yeah. I think that was the extent of my ideas.
Please please please let me know what you think everyone as i have no experience whatsoever in street art performance, & haven't studied drama since around age fourteen.
And i have exams on thursday so don't even have time at my disposal at this exact moment in time.
Butt i do have enthusiasm.  :happy11:
