Katie Jane Garside
« on: September 06, 2008, 12:08:19 PM »

of Daisy Chainsaw, QueenAdreena fame..

Anyone else like her in a quite unhealthy way?

Quote from: Katie Jane
the official worldwide release of the ruby throat debut album 'the ventriloquist' is now available to buy for £10.99, with a fold out poster of the water witch picture taken by james sutton and 2 bonus tracks 1. consuela's newt and 2. the boat song...talking crudely of money its probably worth mentioning that if you buy this directly from us rather than going to amazon or something the proceeds actually go to us as artists which aids and abets our future work....the album can be purchased at the usual address's: www.katiejanegarside.com, www.myspace.com/katiejanegarsiderubythroat, www.myspace.com/katiejanegarside

'house of thieves' is to be released as a digital single on the 29th sept available on itunes etc, b side is a new song 'he doesn't love you'

a missing box of the lalleshwari 'lullabies in a glasswilderness' album has also surfaced so there is about 30 copies of that left too, the links (as above) previously closed for this, have been temporarily reinstated, we will probably repress this album at some point but for now this is the end of the line...

kjg is going to be in the himalayas for sometime catching her breath at altitude and on her return we hope to do some more ruby shows (before the end of the year), we will keep you posted on this..

Yes!  I have since the Daisy Chainsaw days.  My friend, also a fan, calls her "a wounded faerie".  You, of course, get to see her play live.  Have you?  The best I could do was a Queen Adreena concert dvd I bought last year, and was overjoyed to get that.

I have seen both Daisy Chainsaw & Queen Adreena live & met Miss Garside backstage after Daisy Chainsaw supported Hole. Strange woman, friendly but definatly odd. Great frontwoman, great stage persona. Her solo material is really good too.

always appreciated her stuff, perhaps the Daisy Chainsaw stuff more than the later Queen Adreena stuff, but their cover of Jolene really rocked

I have. Seen her quite a few times actually. She (Ruby Throat) played the 12 Bar Club (probably the tiniest venue in London) just a few days ago and I missed it and have been kicking myself and whining about it since. (Hence posting about her on here, probably.. an extention of the kicking myself.)

She is odd. The first time I "met" her (I say "met" in vague quotation marks because, well...) she and the rest of QueenAdreena came and stood directly in front of me and my friends at a Hole gig at the Brixton Academy (1998? 99?) I recognised them/her from Kerrang (etc) and by the fact that they acted as if they were the only people in existence (VERY obviously Rock Stars™). At the time I thought "how rude", but then later, when I saw her being dragged out half-conscious, eyes rolled back in her head, I rather recanted my view and reconciled myself to the fact that she was simply from another planet. Similar incidences ensued practically every time I saw her/encountered her thereafter. I'm a little bit surprised she's still alive, to be honest..

And there was a weird phase where it seemed that Crispin (the weird looking guitarist guy) was at EVERY gig and event I went to. I saw him everywhere I went (granted, he's hard to miss..) Literally, every gig I attended for ages, there he was. I never spoke to him, just noticed him.. lurking. I suppose he just goes to a lot of gigs and lives in London, so I shouldn't have been weirded out really, but still.. (Suppose it says something about my self esteem that I was far more worried he'd think I was stalking him than the other way round...)

When I met her she was saying something about "impenetrable bubbles of personal perception!!" It made talking to Courtney Love afterwards seem quite normal. I never spoke to Crispin. I must say at that gig Daisy Chainsaw blew Hole off the stage & this was at the time of Pretty On The Inside when Hole were to my mind at their best. I do think its her fractured persona, be that real or image is what makes Queen Adreena stand out. The way she can go from fragile & tortured singing sickly & liltingly to screaming like a rage fueled banshee.

Queen Adreena Jolene video

Better than the White Stripes version by quite a long way.

There's not a lot I like by anything KJG-related, but when she's on the money, she really is. 'FM Doll' and 'Love Your Money' are both incredible, but everything else I've heard doesn't get up to those standards.

I didn't like Queen Adreena live either, but if only on the strength of those two songs above (and considering how many years 'Love Your Money' goes back, they must be quite good for me), I am curious enough to listen out for Ruby Throat.

She's always seemed very odd. In an unhealthy sort of way. Her voice is good- I enjoyed some of Queen Adreena's stuff, but when I've read interviews with her, she concerns me a little.

she has always been more than a tad off-the-wall..... some artists can only get there stuff out there as an extension of their own neuroses... ( see a recent amanda article.... cannot rember which one, but discusses in deprth the whole tortured artist stereotype )

Queen Adreena is releasing a new CD, "Djin", in October.  There are 100 pre-release CDs available at www.katiejanegarside.com.

I ordered mine wthin minutes after receiving a KJG email this afternoon.

'bout time.

Just wish I had some money.

If there are any left next week (and/or any tickets to the Madame JoJos show) I'm gonna pounce. :headbang:
