[Taken from the Random Thought thread.]

So I was sort of skeptical about the pandora.com thing, but after about two hours now, it's pretty dang awesome. Music lovers, try it out. It's free to make an account. You type in a band you like and they create a radio station of similar artists for you. Then you can rate whether or not you like the bands, and according to your ratings, they'll play different things. I've found some awesome new [to me] bands in the past few hours.

I used to freaking love that site.  Then I moved to the UK, and I can't access it anymore.  What's up with that?

Britons, http://www.musicplasma.com/ is a very poor alternative but an alternative nonetheless.  I mean, it can recommend you a band, but it won't play you a song.

I s'pose I'm a little late for that train, then. I just found out about it a few months ago.

To paper-doll: it's explained on Wikipedia why pandora is only accessible in the US of A as of now. Wiki.

I really like this website :) It's funny when it reccommends music that I already have haha.

You guys should also check out http://last.fm . It lets you check out your compatibility with other users, and it's another way to find out new aritsts.

I made a last.fm account a while ago, and it drives me crazy. Never could get my computer to scrobble. Pandora suits me much better.l

I've heard Pandora may be going down soon due to not being able to foot the bill for playing rights to all the songs

I use to really like using Pandora, until they stopped allowing Canadians the privilege to use it.

Now I use Last.fm all the time and I love it. I've found so many new artists in such a short time. Its  freakin' awesome.

I'm the exact opposite. Never even gone to last.fm, actually. I love the concept, I just can't be arsed.

Hey, I've been trying to setup a good punk cabaret Pandora station and I was wondering if anyone had any good artist/song suggestions. Just putting Amanda Palmer and the Dresden Dolls gives me things such as the Yeah Yeah Yeahs, a good, but not punk cabaret band.

This is just a suggestion, as I haven't tried it recently, but---

Try adding "The World/Inferno Friendship Society" to your custom radio station.  World inferno is a SUPER fun band and I'm pretty sure Dresden Dolls fans would appreciate.  Back in college I wore a DD shirt to one of my art classes.  Someone saw the shirt and recommended World Inferno to me.  Instantly hooked.  Its quite late right now so using quotes from wikipedia is easiest. "Its style merges punk, soul, klezmer, and jazz, while its collective membership features horns, piano, and guitar."  Wiki classifies them as punk rock, punk cabaret, circus punk, anarcho punk, etc.

Give em a listen and let me know how the station pans out!
