Amanda's got a blog. If blogs could talk, it'd ask you to read it. It might even say "please."

The idolization struck me when you attributed keeping a blog as "amazing". I can pretty much guarantee that you wouldn't say that about any random number of people. But you do for Ms. Palmer, because you fancy her. You're compromising objectivity when you allow your attraction to a person to leave you finding more good than there really is.

You also called her an amazing person. You don't know the woman. You don't even know if she read your post. You can call Gandhi an amazing person. You can call MLK an amazing person. But you can't honestly tell me that you know Amanda Palmer is an amazing person. We are not talking about acts of greatness that sway societies; we're talking about music. And as grand as art is, the creation and sharing of is not something that makes a person good. The person is not the art, and if what you love is the art, then keep your love at the art.

I would point out where you said that your life would be a mess without her if I had indeed taken note of it; but I didn't so, and so never claimed you said it, and so can't point it out.

I have a few questions.

Why does the fact that we are strangers make this conversation unimportant? And if it really is unimportant, why would you bother getting involved in it, or taking offense?

What does the fact that I'm a fan of The Dolls have to do with it? I haven't insulted their work.

You seem like you're just grasping at things to defend yourself and not even bothering to consider what I'm saying, for the fact that you're insulted. You have, a few times, defended yourself against accusations I never even made, the most glaring being overlooking when I stated that my original post was not strictly directed at you. You're tripping over words--age is relative? First of all, I don't care how old you are, and second of all, relative to what? You didn't even give it a medium--and, to your own admission, aren't fully understanding what I'm saying. So, to take offense when you're apparently not attempting to understand what I'm saying--again, not noting that I wasn't strictly speaking to you--and, by your own admission, simply don't, is silly.

I haven't called you any names. I'm just talking to you and attempting to, perhaps, offer up, both to you and in general, a few views I've built up over the years on the subject of this community and this band. Relax, yo.

Haha. I'm laughing at myself. I have no idea why I cared, maybe I was in a bad mood last week or something.

I actually probably overuse to word amazing, and there are many people I know personally who I would deem worthy of that title. And you're right, I dont' erally know Amanda. So I guess I mean her art is amazing. Is that clarification better? I was basing the 'person' off the things she's written.

That's nice and fun and cool that you do shit but so what? I didn't say anything about you as an artist; I said something about a sentiment I see spread all across the board. I saw part of it, that blind adoration, when you accredited her blogs as something "really cool and amazing," or some trite comment like that. I'm referring to her talking about her life. EVERYONE does that. Why the fuck is that to be applauded? She's an exhibitionist and it feels good to have people read about what you do, to make you feel important, and in turn tell you how they feel about it, making your life something more important than it actually is. Again; why is that to be applauded?

Whilst I agree with much of what you said...not EVERYONE leads a life filled with travel, creativity, art, music etc and not EVERYONE is willing or able to write about his or her life in an open, interesting and entertaining fashion. From what I’ve read, a vast majority of blogs are banal and boring (and often badly written to boot). Amanda Palmer’s is not. If people perceive something special or out of the ordinary about it, I don’t see anything wrong with giving it some praise. I definitely agree with you that it doesn’t warrant adulation, but I think it is at least commendable to some degree.

Also, maybe she is an exhibitionist, I guess lots of performers are, but I think it’s pretty cynical to imply that there’s some self-aggrandising agenda behind her whole blogging thing.

THIS is what I agree with and was meaning. Thank you. ^_^

But anyway, who cares ya?

But isn't touring with Brian still easier than touring with Ben Folds,Zoe Keating,East Bay Ray, Via Interficere Choir of Nashville, Jack Palmer, Annie Clark, Jared Reynolds, Strindberg and the Born Again Horny Men of Edinburgh?

The retrospective slide show that accompanies this video (of a great song, by the way) has become one of my lasting memories of the band.  I think it captures perfectly the essence of the Dresden Dolls.

@ Shakti, Elle, beth of all trades:

Thank you for explainig. After getting some sleep, it seems obvious she couldn't blog about it.   :happy11:
Like she said herself, it would have been unfair.
It still seems unfair, though, the way she/they had to deal with it, but everything is always unfair and it's surely the most reasonable and mature solution.  :uglystupid2:

Actually, I'm quite happy that there are things she doesn't blog about, because I came onto the scene about when she was blogging about not writing new songs, and I was worried.  That she described in the show at the Brattle, and in the web chat, meeting Michael at Fringe, and finding out he had a girlfriend with the exact words, "who needs love?"  And then described writing Leeds United at Fringe....

And she's also admitted that she and Brian were already having problems at that point, so I like to that the "that never-talking thing you do is effective" and the following part is, I think, about him.

So, thank gods she doesn't blog about everything and leaves herself stuff to work out in melody and verse!

Is there any way to watch the web chat? (Is that even possible, with that sort of thing? I'm bad at this.)

Anyway I missed it and I'm just wondering what was said.

Hopefully, Len, you will have a good 25 more years to see another dolls concert... Imagine it: Amanda performing at the age of 57!
SHE'LL BE ALMOST AS OLD AS YOU!

Hi Amanda,

Just read this about Brian, you being run over on Sunday and I am working on your Blade :headbang: interview. Wow two "accidents" in a week. Take a deep breath and chug some wine. Some ties cannot be broken no matter what. They last thru numerous lifetimes. Your traveling around the planet and touching so many lives. Savor every moment, good and bad.
