Chicago Brigade 12-03-08
« on: September 26, 2008, 04:19:49 AM »

Oops!  Posted this in boot camp but meant to post it here...

take two...

Yes it is a ways off but that just means more time for planning or procrastinating...

I was thinking that for the Chgo Funeral Procession we should go all classy gangster ala Al Capone era meets roaring 20's theme with a smidgeon of irish thrown in for good measure...what better way to honor Amanda in Chicago then old school gangster/1920's???

Any who want to be involved let me know...have spoken with one or two already...I am very excited to don my funeral style zoot suit...

*raises hand*

I'm in!

 :D

edit: OK just got an idea...  We should set the entrance to the theater up as crime scene investigation.  Get some one to lay down on the ground and we'll trace their body in white chalk and then write "Who Killed Amanda Palmer?" off to the side.  Go totally old school; take Polaroids of potential suspects and then have the audience/those waiting in line to choose their favorite murderer...  Basically, get everyone involved.  Then when the mourners come we can go around and make speeches about how good of a person Amanda 'was'.  Then if anyone is up for it, hand out a funeral song or two with edited words and what not...  For theatrics; perhaps an acted out version of "Backstabber" showing the murder?  I don't know...but what I do know is that I'm totally hyped right now!!!

Omg, I am travelling 3 hours for this show and would just die to be a part of this act! (No pun intended.) I am in love with the 1920's gangster theme - too perfect. Emmie, I love your idea too, I had actually been thinking about something similar, with crime scene tape, a police man with handlebar mustache, perhaps a newspaper reporter and horrified onlookers? Oh, I'm so excited. Please let me know how I can help!

EDIT
Perhaps we could have a town cryer handing out newspapers/flyers about how there is a murderer roaming the streets with reccomendations for all citizens to keep their women and children inside. :)

Emmie-I love your idea too...I am going with the funeral procession as amanda's peeps had said they would like people in different cities doing funeral procession themes...I figured the Al Capone gangster era meets roaring 20's(yay flappers!), with a smidgeon of Irish theme would be a great homage to WKAP Chicago style...we should see what else we can work into the piece and where they are at with themes they want from the brigade on this side of the pond...

It is great heaing from you all and I too am very excited...I already have my gangster style black zoot suit and my friends flapper costume...I even found the hat online I want cause that's what I'm missing-well that and a violin case-hehehe

Brigade love,

jennifer

I'm all for this. If we wanted to go with the funeral song thing, I could design some to hand out. (Hell, I could write some! What are Fiction BFAs for??) Let me know.

i will be flying in from oklahoma to see the show in chicago on december 3rd. if any of you want to meet up and have coffee or discuss existentialism or be retarded goofy together, let me know. i've booked a room at the hyatt regency downtown to sort of be decadent all day, take uneceseccary baths and wear unnecessary bathrobes and order room service before the show.

i'll be in the city by approximately 8am and don't fly out until the next day at 3pm, so even if you can't meet before and would like to meet after for some drinks, that's fabulous too.

any brigade members, hit me up. i'd love to contribute how i can. being in the city puts me in a giving mood. i love chicgao.

Hmm.....can't really help you with the bagpipes but the coffin potentially yes...  Halloween is just around the corner so I'm sure one of us could manage to find a fake coffin somewhere...  Also, Amanda said that she would like people to advertise for the show via living statues and what not (one person being a dead Amanda and the others around her mourning her) well I think we could take it to the next step.  I'm tiny (5'3") and am totally willing to lay in a coffin at the entrance to the theater.  Stripey socks are a check and I have the same hair as Amanda.  Potentially add a bit of powder for a freakishly pale complexion and I'm dead.  Get a folding table and some sort of classy looking table cloth to put on it and the coffin can be elevated and as people enter the theater they could put little messages on provided slips of paper in the coffin...Maybe a few "Ask Amanda" questions or simple "I love you!!!! *fan squeal*.  Get the picture?

Ok, so first off the chicago brigade will once again be bringing it...

i put my idea out which honors chicago~dead amanda~and irish.

i meant to tighten it all up way sooner but life can be a fickle bitch.

so can procrastination.

i don't in fact know that i can make it after all. i am sorry.

i might need to have a more major surgery than the one i thought for something that is back...if that is the case i won't be able to fully participate...i will still be there but will need help with more of the organizing and might need to stay more on the sidelines and miss the show-i like to be upfront but will be too physically wrecked to handle a crowd especially since i don't/won't take pain meds...have two tickets and if my friend does not want them i will be giving them away...

i would however love to post the somewhat OCD outline of my brigade ideas and let you lovely, talented, vibrant, artistic~LOVELY brigaders run with it...i know how proudly and amazingly you will all represent...

so let me know and then i will get it posted asap...

and rest assured that if the timing works out or whatever i will be there to at least help as long as i have breathe in my body...which i will...i just might be a bit lighter on one side-hahaha!

ps to everyone who voted...FUCKING THANK YOU...we can and we did start to move in a better direction... :headbang:

Procrastination=Anticipation...

OK, my little pretties aka Chicago Brigaders here is an early attempt at role call...

Anyone in these threads has gotten either an email(rachel and the hottest stiltwalkers ever and richard's cranium...that's right we have music for the funeral procession-thank goddess!!!! ) and yes I will make sure it is ok and we will have no wrigley field sound competition because thank any and all baseball season is long over...whew!

Everyone else here has gotten a PM or mssg of some sort so please let me know asap what you are up for, in for, and down for yo!

As things stand here is everyone on my wee list and in no particular order:

Rachel
Richard and His Cranium productions & whatnot
Kaitlin
Ownlife
kitkite
Emmie Blythe
ghostofthegirl
*hopefully Mari
*hopefully Nick
*****hoping to hear from Mandolin Rain and friends-please come play and make rock/art/brigade love!!!!
me

ALSO:  real names~contact numbers(if you want kept pvt say so)~email, and what you want to do and how much~and nothing is too little or too much as every bit of participation is joyfully welcomed and celebrated...

Once I hear more back from all and others will post final  but hoping for at least some improv outline...

rock/art/brigade love,
jolly
 :headbang: :love5: :tongue7: :icon_rr: :headbang:

ps  here is a list of things/items i still want to find:  a burgundy/black shroud~violin or ukele cases~vintage parasols or vintage black or burgundy umbrellas...AND everyone who can to call and have their local flower shops save bags of their  dropped flower petals a few days before the show and to bring them...it is generally very affordable and yes we will be leaving flowers and gifts at dead amanda's corpse but it should also be raining/crying flowers for her that day as well don't you think?!

more to come and no i did not use spell check and yes i have been embibing my favorite spirit...

breakin the law~BREAKING THE LAW!!!   Never mind not being defiant just had a weird Judas Priest flashback rock moment after reading a lovely repost from King S...yes i was in fact the weird kid who loved the cure~siouxsie~the clash~depeche mode~the smiths and bad yet glorious arena rock...diversity is a good thing  and i would and will never denounce ac/ dc or black sabbath as seeing them early on was like worshipping at rock altars...the rest and those not mentioned fed my young  and and times VERY stoned emo soul...

i do have a point.

not just responding to my own comment. because we are now keeping it on the D-Lo(no relation to j-lo)

I have this to say...

have heard back from lots...missing some expected...so get up off your porcelain~put your lovely books and pens down and pm a quick response...

and if you are not responding for a reason-just say so as there is no conflict in the land of brigading...

we are NOT in kansas anymore toto!

if you are in doubt simply click your heels together and repeat "there is no place like amanda fucking palmer's show in chicago"

and all will be righted...ruby slippers not required~although cute shoes will always be admired and fully appreciated!

I am getting excited...shhhhhhh

Brigade/Art roll call of sorts...

I still have not heard hide nor hair from last time stilt walkers...would still love to have you but you will part of a stilt posse now...and i am also wondering where is waldo...you know who you are-haha!!!!

music including but not limited to mandolin...keyboard...and some ukes of course...and singing...not me singing-you are welcome...i will reserve my bad singing(but heartfelt) for up front at the show!

We have a DAFP aka dead amanda fucking palmer...hello queen!  O0  welcome to Al's tomb!

we have candles/tapers but need more: black or burgundy or white please...

I will be procuring some red/white rose petals but would like to ask for some to bring even more...most towns with flower shops will save and sell you petals if you ask a few days ahead...and cheaply...

We still need a black or burgundy sheet~shroud of sorts...

Eulogy is covered...

What about funeral/memorium cards...

AFP funeral/altar pics covered but ALL are of course happily welcomed...

and any and all~brigading or not should brings gifts to place at her altar...painting something for that to go on the ground so we don't leave melted wax all over the sidewalk in front of metro...

chime in-chime up...here or PM or email...

And happy tofurkey day to all on thursday!

 :headbang: :love5:
jolly

P.S. and last but not least WKAP stencils to promote the album...and cranium the venue is being asked re your electrical needs...if it is a problem for them I will respectfully and with permission from all~find you an alternative hook-up...i am the daughter of a digital design/electronics engineer/space shuttles awards dad...so...and a gemini to boot!

Just joined the Shadowbox, longtime fan... I'm just lazy.

Just got my friend and I tickets for the show. It's his christmas present, since I'm driving him and all (all the way from Wisconsin... long I know right xD ). Would love to meet up with some people for the show. Also love the idea of the whole 1920's gangster schabang.  O0

Mandolin Rain...

come alone and be with us all...there is no such thing as alone whilst brigading...or at amanda's show.

you can't send those flapper pics and then not show up...it is illegal in chicago...

sell your extra ticket there...

i am as i got majorly bailed on...and otherwise too.

soldier through it as my old friend SAM loved to say...

come be fabulous with the brigade (because you are)...

and then relish and drown yourself in amandamazingness...

Ok~ take a deep breath and just listen now...

look at the watch swinging back and and forth...

you are feeling sleepy...

and think how there is no place like amanda in chicago...

she has built it and you will come.

pretty please with whatever you want on top...

Sorry, i have been lax in writing this out sooner but alas life was busy being life and yada~yada~yada.

As for the outline i will bring it when we meet beforehand because that way we can all collectively agree and collaborate.

For now here is the plan:  Brigade starts one hour before doors.  Tickets says 7:30 so doors should be 6:30~IF THIS INFO CHANGES i will let you all know.

I would like to have everyone meet up at 5:30 or 6 at the Mcdonald's down the street from Metro on Clark Street...corner of addison and clark and right across from wrigley so we can organize and introduce and be excited and whatnot...

Any and all are welcome!!!!

Theme=  1920's Chicago gangster/roaring 20's/and some Irish...think Al Capone...flappers...funeral...mourning...long black coats and suits for the outside procession...parasols and presents for amanda's altar...candle's-flowers-flower petals-ponies-pictures-notes and platitudes...if you want to speak or read or sing/perform something in her memory you are more than welcome-you are VERY much welcome...we also have music and singing and stiltwalkers and a funeral procession...so come join in and celebrate Amanda Fucking Palmer- the artist formerly known as alive in whatever way works best for you...as long as it is legal and does not piss off the venue...

if you can't meet early at McDonald's just let me know and remember that we don't brigade until an hour before doors because respecting the venue and each other is paramount.

any question just mssg or email me at jollygirl@aol.com...

also I will be getting back to everyone I have heard from on monday and calling those whose numbers i have.

For now I am going to go panic about how much i have left to do...hahaha

P.S.  sorry for the bitchy aggro in another thread but only because i did not do it respectfully not because i don't believe in what i said...because i do.

namaste,
jolly
 :headbang:

WKAP CHICAGO BRIGADE ROLL CALL
contact/info sheet
12-03-08

Amanda Fucking Palmer
D/O/B April 30, 1976
D/O/D September 16, 2008

Metro
3730 N. Clark
Chicago

So, what is so much better than dinner and a movie or dinner and a show?  Why a funeral procession in Amanda’s honor and then her show with the Danger Ensemble of course!  And coming out to play and perform with the brigade.

* Doors are at 6:30 pm so the brigade should be ready to roll at 5:30*
If you can’t make that time just let me know ahead of time and then get there as close to that as possible.

Early meet up: will be at 5pm at Mcdonald’s down the way from Metro on Clark Street/corner of addison and clark across from Wrigley(that big place where they play baseball or something of the sort).  We can go over things and if people need to get ready you can use the bathrooms there as well.

My contact info: Jennifer Jolly cell# 815-988-2337 for day of show. Text first so I know who you are.
I will be available at Jollygirl@aol.com until about 12 pm on Wednesday.
I will be dressed as Al Capone so I will be easy to spot at Mcdonald’s.

As for the outline I will bring it when we meet beforehand because that way we can all collectively agree and collaborate.

Theme=  1920's Chicago gangster/roaring 20's/and some Irish...think Al Capone...flappers...funeral...mourning...long black coats and suits for the outside procession...parasols and presents for amanda's altar...candle's-flowers-flower petals-ponies-pictures-notes and platitudes...if you want to speak or read or sing/perform something in her memory you are more than welcome-you are VERY much welcome...we also have music and singing and stilt walkers and a funeral procession...so come join in and celebrate Amanda Fucking Palmer- the artist formerly known as alive in whatever way works best for you...as long as it is legal and does not piss off the venue...

Come ready to mourn and have fun with the brigade and the crowd.  Improv and crowd interaction is highly desired but if you are a super shy type feel free to march in the procession and quietly participate.  ALL participation is welcomed!

*also we have not just one but two DAFP’s a.k.a. dead Amanda fucking palmers-one will be outside and one inside...I will bring a workout mat and yoga mat so you won’t be right on the ground but we still need black or burgundy shrouds or sheets?  Anyone want to tackle it?  Pretty please with brigade cherries on top!

I look forward to meeting you all~performing and playing with you all~and then rocking out to the show with you all!!!!

Rock/art/brigade love,
jennifer jolly

P.S.  If you know of anyone who wants to join in and this did not get to them feel free to pass it on...thanks.  I emailed it to the 17 people i have email info for but wanted to post it here for the few i did not have info on.

P.P.S.  if you go writing my number in a bathroom stall please make sure it is a gay bar and remember to add "for a jolly time please call"...hahaha

WE ARE SO BRINGING IT~THANKS TO ALL OF YOU!  :headbang: :headbang: :headbang: :love5:

Hey there,
I've never brigaded before but always really really wanted to and I will do whatever the hell y'all want (yes, anything...) if someone can give me a ride to the show (I am in Beloit, WI right on the border between WI and IL).  I got a ticket because itevaporated said she could give me a ride but now the show is two days away and she hasn't replied to my PM with any details.
So...itevaporated or any other kind and merciful souls who will be passing through Beloit (or I can take a bus up to Madison and meet up with you there) and want to help a poor desperate AFP fan and guide her through her first brigade...well, I'd love you forever.

WEATHER ALERT !!!!

Fucking winter can suck it...not mother nature as i don't want to anger her-haha!

Check the weather reports on tuesday night but as it stands chicago might get 6in of snow on tuesday and there is a 70%chance of rain or snow on the day of the show...

UMBRELLA"S & PARASOLS PEOPLE!!!!!!!!!!!!!

NO WORRIES about the brigade we will just switch it up and do more inside...the funeral march will definitely start outside but both DAFP's will be inside if it is too cold or too wet...i am making a chicago is a fickle little wintery bitch contingency plan so YES THE BRIGADE WILL GO ON and be as amazing as ever~we will just make the weather a character so there!

DO DRESS WARM!!!!  Hats and gloves and scarves and jackets-Oh My!

I am going to make myself a drink now, have a smoke, and resume gluing myself to stuff and getting paper cuts and creating some wicked basement art while talking to myself and laughing out loud...and of course listen to WKAP at stun volume for energy and inspiration...

 :headbang:

ALSO: remember to take into account extra travel time with the bad weather and whatnot and watch out for snow advisory parking issues because they are beyond evil about that in chicago...

weather~smeather!

looks like rain in the morning on wed turning to snow with but a mere 1-2inches and in the breezy 30's...

the way i see it is it will make it easier to look all sad~morose~generally miserable for the outside funeral procession part...and cause we are mourning afp's death too of course-haha!

If anyone has any last minute questions let me know.

ALSO:  if anyone has any extra tickets let me know as we have some brigaders who will buy them from you!!!!!

 O0

PS if anyone has some dark blankets they want to bring that would be great...i have a small dark navy fleece for outside DAFP but more would rule!

WKAP CHICAGO BRIGADE OUTLINE

Ok, my lovely, amazing, and wonderfully diverse but ALL talented merry band of Chicago Brigaders~here is the basic outline.  We will talk over more specifics day of but I think this will give you the gist of what we are going for.  I nixed the more specific outline sponsored by my OCD and anal retentiveness to give us more room for improv and fun in the face of less structure.  If anyone wants more specific input and suggestions just let me know.  And to all the virgin brigaders we have joining us~WELCOME!  The most important thing to remember is to have fun and enjoy yourselves and to know you are not alone...art is fun and brigading is a blast...it is your chance to be a part of the art instead of just observing...you will all rule old and new~of this I have no doubt!  Wow~this paragraph is actually longer than the outline-hahaha!

*the outline has been emailed to those I have full contact info on and the rest of you here will be getting it in a PM shortly...EDIT: if you did not receive it here nor there PM or email me

rock/art/brigade love,
jolly

you ALL seriously  :headbang: :headbang: :headbang: :headbang: :headbang: :headbang: :headbang:

beautiful strangers are the best strangers of all...oops i think i just laminated myself to my laptop~oh the joy of manually laminating hundreds of funeral cards~weeeee

did i pm you the outline?

if not let me know and i will get right on it!

UPDATE:  would anyone care to tackle writing a eulogy...we have someone coming from way out of town who was writing and reading it but due to circumstances out of their control they might not make it on time or get to finish it in time...if we end up with two you will each read yours...if not i have something i will print out to read as it will be perfect for her...would love to write it but i am still finishing up laminating my arse off~packing shit up creatively and efficiently for quick set up and organizing last minute details.

never found a shroud so i will bring an extra long black coat so our outside DAFP will be warm and funeral like. :love5:

and thanks again to those helping others out with rides and tickets... :headbang:

Oh d-d-d-dear...here i am posting in this thread again-ha!

So, i had to make do with a mere 150 funeral cards because i ran out of lamination paper and my polymer varnish i was going to use as backup is old and no longer agreeable to it's artistic task...i know i had more lamination paper stashed but i think it went the way of my ex before last...i went through a 'lamination phase" and drove her a bit around the bend with it~she even threw  out my laminating machine hence going manual with what i had managed to stash...what she never knew is at one point i just started laminating everything i could because she was so hot when she was miffed...hehehe and yes we were at the tail end of our downward relationship spiral anyways so why not have some fun with it!

I w2ould have bought more but my brigade budget was 10$...2.50 on a cheap costume store fedora~50 cents for a paper black rose for my lapel, and 2$ at walgreen's to print out some color photos too as I have photo paper up the wazoo and no ink for that printer...and i bartered with a cute lady at the flower store for rose petals and flowers for 2$(score!)...everything else was stuff i had left from the past few years and i'm wearing dad's old suit-huge but i am wearing it over my concert outfit so i can do a peel and go...i love when shit works out no matter what!  the other 5$ is for the danger ensemble~when i get back and start my new job at the Woman's Health Clinic i will definitely send more online...going out with amanda with no guarantee of pay is truly art for the sake of art...

yes, i am rambling.

it is 5am and i have the piece packed into 2 small and easily portable then  easily packed into each other bags...i am going to go load them into my car have a much earned cigarette and cocktail outside and then paint my nails and attempt to sleep...this way i can even sleep in since i only have 4 tasks before heading back to my old sweet home chicago tomorrow...

call or text if you have questions or issues...otherwise i will meet all you lovely art freaks tomorrow...oops-i mean later today.

It is 2pm and i just got home from the chicago show and have yet to sleep so i will write more at length later...but this must be said now.

YOU were ALL so fucking amazing last night and not for being a 95% virgin brigade-just amazing period.  It was the best group i have had the pleasure of brigading with since taking the plunge myself and you must all go stand in front of your mirrors~pat yourselves on the back and repeat three times:  "I do fucking rule-don't I?!".  Because you seriously do... :love5:

loads~heaps~mounds of rock/art/brigade love and as afp would also say Namaste Motherfuckers! :headbang:
jolly

P.S. when i got in today i swear my cat looked at me and shook her head and gave me an oh hell no look-hehe
