The Accent Thread
« on: October 27, 2008, 12:05:13 AM »

I assume I have a generic American accent, but which one exactly, I'm not too sure. I assume it's the California one, but I learned English in Canada. The purpose of this thread is to post voice recordings of yourself, and discuss various accents. Mainly, this is for socialising.

A website that records accents from different regions --->
http://accent.gmu.edu/index.php

This is the paragraph they all read:
Please call Stella.  Ask her to bring these things with her from the store:  Six spoons of fresh snow peas, five thick slabs of blue cheese, and maybe a snack for her brother Bob.  We also need a small plastic snake and a big toy frog for the kids.  She can scoop these things into three red bags, and we will go meet her Wednesday at the train station.

I'll have a recording up eventually.

I've heard of that website before...

Despite the fact that I've lived on Long Island since I was 3 (I'm 21 now) I do not have a thick accent - sure you can hear a hint of one, especially with specific words...

I live like 15 minutes away from Ronkonkma and I do not sound like this:
http://accent.gmu.edu/browse_language.php?function=detail&speakerid=93

but one thing is for sure, Long Islanders do talk fast, at least kids do usually.

If you want to hear me talk just click my myspace link, I have audio clips up.

lol
i would like to point out the fact that I had an allergic reaction to Garlic today (vampireeee) and am currently hopped up on the benadryl. thus, i felt like i was slurring my words lmao
so this may not be the best sample of my voice   :happy11:

Yeah? Sweet.
I can hear all the places I've been in my voice. But it's probably just me being nit picky. I mumble a lot too. MUMBLER.

And Yosmark- your voice seriously turned me on.
And Bec-Your voice was freaking adorable.
And Edgar- Lower then your singing voice! I was surprised, in a good warm fuzzy sort of way.
