  • Goodbye to blueberry pie

First of all, it was HOT. The church had no air-conditioning but the windows were open and there were some fans. It was uncomfortable but we survived. Amanda kept it short with no long, rambling intros. I think the heat put a damper on the mood and it was weird to sit quietly at an AFP show. The highlight was Jack's singing and their harmonies. Very much a home town show with more gray hair that is usual at one of her gigs!

Thor & Friends opened the show with some cool multi-layered instrumental pieces. They play marimba, xylophone and vibraphone as well as violin, guitar, clarinet and other instruments.

As usual, I can't remember the exact order, but here goes:

In My Mind - Amanda on uke
Machete - with Thor & Friends (this song gets better every time I hear it.

Jack and Amanda:

You Got Me Singing
Joan of Arc - I suspect this is the Leonard Cohen song they considered putting on the record
In the Heat of the Summer
Black Boys on Mopeds
Louise Was Not Half Bad, with steel guitar by Thor's friend
Wynken, Blynken, Nodd
Skye Song
Pink Emerson Radio
I Love You So Much - with audience singing
Glacier - with Thor and Friends providing appropriate crescendos.
1952 Vincent Black Lightning -  (this was the highlight for me)

Please correct me if I missed or misplaced something!

Thor&Friends set included use of video projections that complimented each piece of music.  Hard to see as they were projected on the front wall of the church with the organ pipes in the middle.  The church window also had no black out curtains.

Even muted, the projections were still an important part of their art.

Thor&Friends will be coming back through New England in October. Well worth seeing & hearing!!!

Their websight is http://www.thorharris.org/ - seems to be neither a mailing list nor a Facebook group.  I heard that Team AFP is encouraging Thor to add both.

Thor of Thor&Friends is Thor Harris of many groups, including the drummer of Amanda Palmer & The Grand Theft Orchestra who replaced  Michael McQuilken.  Thor plays many more instruments than the drums, including xylophone & clarinet.

Thor has also written several thoughful lists & essays, on topics like
