it's directed by alex de campi, shot in london, starring EVERYBODY we knew in london...including some awesome football hooligans.
we had SO MUCH help making this video i don't even know where to start, but you know who you are. everyone who showed up to be an extra, everyone who donated their beautiful faces and costumes, the dancers, steven for his wonderful choreo....
everyone who played soccer with me that week - you're all there in spirit, yo.
this video has a somewhat sordid backstory.
if you were at my london show, you already know this, because i mentioned it from stage, but for the rest of you...hear ye.
the fine folks at roadrunner records wanted us to re-cut this video so that shots of my belly wouldn't be included.
they basically told me that i looked too fat.
i told them to fuck off.
the saga continues, but i'll fill you in later.

for a female singer to sell records, she has to be "sexy", and that in order to be "sexy",
she must have a totally flat (but not too muscular... oh what the hell, we'll just airbrush
all the pictures) stomach.
Clearly, they don't get "sexy" in any real sense.

Its ridiculous..... the fact that they have also deliberately mishandled the release of the video as well makes me want to go to their offices and do bad things....... You would think that they would be actively encouraging one of their artists to make money for them

That pissed me off too.
Amanda is really thin, actually. It's....sad and kind of disgusting that our society is so fixated on weight that a thin-but-healthy girl would be told by some ball-sucking execs to cover up her belly. Fuck that.

I'm glad she told them that was bullshit because the girl needs to stand up for her (well loved) belly. Goodness.

I guess in their heads that's what they ARE doing. In their messed up skulls, "encouraging one of their artists to make money for them" would mean making certain that the "money making body product" is what is being presented by said artist. this is the perfect opportunity to fuck them all in roedorrunner records and re-release your album with 8foot / e11even records in a 3cds edition, normal, alternate, dvd, and a book case.
i know that it's not that easy..... but it would be great!

well, if amanda is fat.. than i am the great mister santa clause himself! and we all know that i'm not santa. i am seriously disgusted with roadrunner records, not only because of the saying amanda is fat, but also because of all the other things such as releasing the video in australia, .. amanda looks gorgeous in the video and i heart the belly, it looks a bit like my own belly. i was showing the video to one of my friends and actually said 'see that? the belly, it's some functional nakedness, i bet it'll attract looooots of watchers  ' |

This fucks me off so much, I can't put it into words. When I first heard about this at Koko, I was totally outraged.
1. Amanda. Is. SLIM. What are you on?! She'd be too skinny if she lost any weight, she's a perfect size. She's absolutely gorgeous, particularly in this video.
2. Even if she wasn't slim though, they're missing the point, they don't understand Amanda at all. Since when was she your conventional female solo artist?! As she said at Koko, 'Who do you think I am, Britney Fucking Spears?!' If Amanda Palmer was an artist MARKETTED as a sex symbol, like ol' Britney, I'd understand them keeping an eye on her. As the artist that she is though, her weight is irrelevant. She's different to every other music act. She's unique and she makes a statement, through her image as well as her music.
3. Thirdly though, I'd like to reiterate, SHE'S SLIM. It's almost kind of annoying me, people saying she needs to stand up for her belly and suchlike. It makes it sound like we're waving the 'big is beautiful' flag. That doesn't apply to her, she's tiny, Roadrunner are just out of their minds.
I really respect Amanda for her 'fuck them' attitude. I just hope it's heartfelt and she won't feel any pressure to change after this.
God I hate Roadrunner. So hope Amanda can switch to another record label. She deserves better.
