I know this probably be likes a shortish threads. But I vaguesly recalls this poopin' up in the old Box and its'a been happenin' here too. (kinda like da who 2 bang thread?)
K.
Seriously, I understand people getting annoyed by seeing grammar errors and misspells. I had a friend who would get so irritated if someone said, "will you itch my back?" that her head would implode and I'd have to get the mop out and start all over.
I said this before, but scientific studies have shown that there is a particular area of the brain where spelling skills, in particular, are located. A lot of people we deem as precocious or highly intelligent can't spell worth a hoot. Intelligence and spelling are like a fish and a tricycle. Point made poorly, but made.
Less "proven" studies have been done on grammar because it's a more complicated task to set up in the first place. However, language itself is "fluid" and constantly undergoing changes. This is why, if you go to a reference section in the library or Borders, etc. --you'll find a ton of books on everything from how to write a resume to the most recent compilation of slang/euphemisms --and on and on it goes.
The story as to how and why the English language has become the "international language" is interesting in itself...pm me if you care enough. I'll tell you all about, "The Story of English."
In the above paragraph, you will see an e.g. of what I was taught was the proper way to utilize quotations. When I read many entries now--it would look more like this: ...about, "The Story of English."--OR. Even more common, it's been accepted that one-word quotes, such as-- my "blob" came over <<don't require a comma at all. Even MORE! (yay!) If "blob" comes at the end of a sentence, people don't write it as - "blob." They often write--"blob".
I'm pretty sure my use of quotations is correct. However, I've made flaws with apostrophes in my past frequently --when it had been a while since I'd written anything at all...
My Point & the Important Message: Since there are several people here who speak a foreign language, and since typo's and misspells and the use of commas to separate and "pause" and -again, on and on and on...(run-on intentional)
When addressing someone's error, perhaps we should try and do it in a polite way. If you feel inclined, please vent your most irritating grammar/spelling issues in this very thread. e.g. -I hate it when people use "e.g." for expediency when they could simply type out--"for example."
If you can think of no eruptions that surface on your skin when you encounter someone else's grammar/spelling mistake, then try and withhold executing a fellow Box member should you come across a mistake. Even better, point out what you see as the problem with tact.
Final NOTE OF IMPORTANCE: IF this all sounds boring, you could personalize this thread to a --"please stop misspelling "epistle" folks." Whatever.
And for shit's sake people, STOP starting your sentences with "AND!" And please stop typing in phrases. Instead of sentences!
