Absolutely. If english is not your first language, you should not be expected to get it all right. Thats ok.

"definitely" is spelled just that way. For some reason, its just one of those words that people just cannot grasp the fact that it is definitely and not definately.

Well, I shall try to write it correctly from now on. Definitely. Definitely. Definitely. Right.

I was wondering about the rules of english (british) spelling and words against americanenglish ones. Because I have learned english as second language, I get really confused with them and used them mixed. It's also rather funny because I now have more british than american accent (it's not either, though, really), people expect me to use british words when I speak. But I always say candy, couch, pants, and so on. It has gotten me to trouble, especially when I was wearing a skirt and told someone on the phone I'm not wearing any pants, I'm wearing a skirt!

yes, people. i regularly start sentences with "And" or "But" and that last bit WAS indeed a joke. It was a joke pointed at myself.

I should go backwards and repeat. I see people get angry at grammar/spelling mistakes all the time. Politely pointing out where someone makes one of these mistakes is ok by me.

Being<<and that is a grammar mistake too! on purpose again!>> a "jerk" about it when it doesn't pertain to the conversation in the post only serves to derail and ...it gives the flavor of being picked on right in the middle of a conversation.
So, I thought I'd post this thread so those who get upset about grammar and spelling issues could vent. Simple as that. <<"Simple as that." is a phrase, not a sentence.

I've had friends who go nuts with anger over mistakes in this area. I, personally, make many mistakes. I also concur with the person who said that in a "casual" atmosphere, it doesn't seem to apply, while she/he is a grammar "nazi" outside of it. (hopefully at work or with official documents)

This is just a place to vent, in the hopes that someone might learn something along the way. Also, it's a way of communicating the grammar/spelling issues you have so that it's possible to avoid having to say it in another thread. Is it possible? I don't have any idea.

I respect and am glad for everyone's post in here.

But you're from a non-English speaking country, right?  So your not knowing how to spell "definitely" is something I would just shrug my shoulders at.  There are a few people I speak with on AIM who use ESL; they make mistaks, and I might let them know the correct way (I feel rude, in that case; they can't help that they get a little confused about what tense to use something), but it doesn't bother me.

If you're from here and you're almost an adult and you don't punctuate or speak/write English very well. . .  well, I think it's kind of sad.

I don't so much mind people not capitalizing; whatever, it's a forum.  What does freak my head out is not punctuating.  USE APOSTROPHES, GOD DAMN IT!

And for shit's sake people, STOP starting your sentences with "AND!" And please stop typing in phrases.

Was this intentional?  It made me laugh, either way ;D

I start sentences with "And". Not in formal papers, but on forums. I don't really care... I'm not being graded or anything.

XD Not the first time I've failed at something.

I'm a pretty good writer, and I have won awards for my writing in the past. I'm not too worried about grammar on here. Unless it's completely attrocious and leaves my brain wanting to implode, I don't really care.

And there was peace over the land. And then someone stole my enema. But it didn't make me mad.

I think foreign people are fantastic. They add to the forum a new and distinct "flavor" of Somewhere ELSE.

And yes. i already said "And" is a joke.
I also said that mistakes in the forum don't bother me.

If I saw it in an effort to impeach someone, or ...let's say. "I know what it's like to put food on your family." things like that.

(and it bothers me when people use the excuse for mr. pres. that he "is one of us" meaning -common. i don't think that is a very good requirement for the job. or, a way of thinking that the "leader" of our country --it's fine if he's stupid--because we are. wtf is that? i'm not explaining myself here well. so i'm stopping)

all grammar mistakes in here are for fun. in other posts I misspell and make mistakes sometimes like everyone else. except for God. and i haven't decided who in the forum is God yet...
