N.U.  - just a little question.  I've been considering the nipple piercing thing, and am too shy to ask people in real life about it.  I know it hurts, but is there lots of seepage?  And how long does on average before it heals?

okay, This is the second time I've had them pierced. I found out getting them done the second time that they were done all wrong the first time. Wrong jewelry, wrong location.

My first bit of advice is consult with a professional. Look at it this way, they may be the piercer doing your piercing so there's no sense being shy about it.

As for seepage? No, no seepage. Just remember sea salt soaks every day for 5-10 minutes for the first couple of months. The general rule is 3 months to heal and 6 months before you can change out the initial piercing jewelry. I highly recommend piercing them with barbells and not Captive bead rings. They won't snag on as much ( a big source of infections after the fact) and the piercing heals, in general better.

Also, they heal faster if you only touch them enough to clean off the exposed bit after a sea salt soak.

Back to my original point, though, definitely consult a professional. They'll give you the pros and cons and all the warning signs to look for while your piercing is healing.

so i had an industrial forEVER and the girl who did it apparently did it weird/wrong (so i've been told) because i had a huge keloid on it, i finally got sick of the keloid and took the peircing out and was planning on putting 2 seperate earrings in those holes once they got to "air out" and the keliod went down...well i forgot to put the one in and the keloid has taken till  now to be almost gone...now i want to put earrings back in there cause i payed $80 for a girl to mess up my peircing damnit! but im not sure if it's closed up, and my hubz wont try cause if i bleed or something like that he'll freak out, and i cant see to do it myself...should i go to a peircer again and pay to have them help me repierce them if they need that, or can i just shove it back in...i've looked up about cartalidge peircings healing and most people say the cartalidge hole stays open but the the skin grows back, and if i just need to punch through skin, i can do that my damn self...but i'm not stupid enough to do cartalidge

any thoughts?

Actually, My sea salt soaks made me laugh gleefully as I was getting images in my head of Katy Parry spraying her whipped cream from her "California Girls" video.

so.... I accidentally scratched the tattoo. It was more of me putting my nails on it and then realizing as I was about to scratch that I in fact have a tattoo. Anyway, point is is that I may have taken off a scab during my accidental scratch. I get a free touch-up, though. Am I still fucking it up?

Also, thanks Ag, I love you immensely.

it's ok.  sometimes scabs get knocked off.  you and your tattoo will survive, and if it needs a touch up, they will do it.

While we're talking about piercings, I had my inner conch pierced about 5 years ago, and it was 14 gauge. I had to keep taking it out for work, and about 3 or 4 years ago I lost the bar down the sink one day when I was putting my piercings back in, and the only thing I could get to replace it was this cheap ear-lobe stud earring, which I assumed was 16 gauge. The butterfly thing at the back is a giant pain in the arse, so I decided recently to swap it out for a 16 gauge labret bar I had, but I can't fit the damn thing in. The old earring still goes in and out just fine, but I'm wondering if it's a fraction smaller than 16g. If so, is it likely that the hole has just gotten smaller and I'll have to get it professionally gauged to get anything bigger back in, or does the cartilage stay fixed and only the skin grow over, as tanq suggested, and would I be able to gauge it myself?
I've gauged lip piercings before, but cartilage scares me.

a piercing stud, like you get at a piercing pagoda type place, is closer to a 20ga than anything else. It's tiny. Your hole shrunk, but the cartilage under the skin should still have the original-sized hole in it.

Wow, you took out the piercing everyday for work? You are what I like to call - not lazy. Oh mon Dieu, if I were in that situation I would grow my hair out and cover up my ears all day everyday.

Okay, another quick question or two. Will having a pimple (or any other sort of acne) on the tattoo ever screw it up unless I didn't pop it and just let it dry up and fall off? Also, there are no scabs or any signs of peeling but it's still itchy and I've started lightly scratching it. Am I fine?

I honestly feel so silly when I ask these questions. I know how random they are.

Anyway, thanks for dealing with my silliness.

you can buy a small taper for piercing, or even a set of tapers, from offline.  some shops have the smaller gauged tapers for sale, up to a 14 gauge ive seen.

if you give me a LOT of time i can possibly locate a taper for you and send it, along with some advice on how to NOT use it.  : )

if the skin is not open at all, it is ok to lightly scratch.  i prefer that you slap instead, as the skin is brand new and easily ripped for a bit, but if your nails aren't awful, you should be ok.

also, incidentally, i apologize if i kind of jump on these types of questions.  i don't mean to be tattoo lord or anything, but it's been my livelihood for like twenty years, so i don't even notice when i interrupt and barge through a conversation about aftercare with detailed instructions, and the like.  but, i don't mean to be the end-all be-all of tattoos, it's just that it's, yanno.  what i do.

It's otay, I like having you answer things because you are an actual tattoo artist. Not that I don't trust what anyone else says to me, but you know like you said, it's what you do.

And my nails are a-ok. I cut them every week. I don't file though simply cuz it stunts the growth of my nails. But after a day or two the edges smooth out. I cut them on Sunday so they're not super sharp anymore.

So I guess the pimple's fine. I rarely pop pimples albeit tempting. I don't like those types of scars.

Again, thank-you. I'll be coming back here for more silly questions.

thanks.  i just don't want to come across as, yanno.

lubriderm causes some zits, usually peripherally  you're clogging your pores with a moisturizer, so it's pretty much inevitable.  it's ok to mash them if they aren't in the ink (they can transport ink out of skin just like anything else), but if you're not in the habit of mashing them, leaving it alone is also ok.
