Things I Like: A Thread for Links
« on: August 15, 2007, 03:49:12 PM »

I think this is a neat idea.  We can just post links to sites we think are funny, products we like, whatever.

Dunno if this has been done before.

Dunno if it'll catch on.

I'mma gonna try, though.

I like:

Kiss My Face products.

I don't really like antiperspirant, so I buy Liquid Rock by this company.  I like the patchouli body wash/bath gel.  I also like the fact that they don't test on animals or contain animal products.

They're expensive in the store, kind of expensive in general, but they have a cool "dollar store" section, and "under $15" section.  You can find really good deals, and I used the site to buy some Christmas presents, last year.

The Perry Bible Fellowship...

http://pbfcomics.com/?cid=PBF211-Atlantis.jpg#196

It's a comic that tends to be in alternative newspapers like Boston's Weekly Dig
It tends to just be very absurd.

I like those boots I've been seeing Amanda wear, lately (I feel really weird for saying that. . . . ).  I looked them up, and they're WAY too fucking overpriced for me, but I still like them.  If I ever had the money, there are quite a few pair of shoes I'd buy from this site.

A great site for indie music, kinda heavy on ethereal, trip-hop and dream pop (which is cool by me), but featuring lots of other stuff as well.

14 fun games online for free:
http://videogames.yahoo.com/feature/playing-for-free/1183474

Some of these are really fun and way above average for web-based or downloadable freeware.

Fancy Pants Adventure on page two had me hooked late night. Initially you have to start with this dumb scene about golf but that only lasts 5 or 6 minutes. The physics are sooo fun to play with and theres live chat while doing it.

Nanaca Crash is kind of addicting although I'm confused about using specials.

Also the original Grand Theft Auto is up there.

http://www.gaijinsmash.net/archives.phtml

my friend just recently showed this to me. it's about a black guy who went to teach English in Japan, and all the weirdness he encountered with his students. here's one of my favorite stories from;

Quote from: Japanese Kids Say the Darndest Things, Part 2 - January 12, 2005
My male students love to challenge me to arm wrestling. They're quite interested in hand and arm strength, and for them, I'm like the ultimate test. I beat most of them pretty easily, but some boys give me a run for my money. Before you laugh, realize that these kids are playing sports every day, for 2 hours a day. Compare that to my sedentary lifestyle of eating rice and watching bad Japanese TV, and I'm thankful I can still beat them at all.

During yet another bout of arm wrestling matches at the ghetto school, one boy came along who was actually pretty strong. I was having some difficulty against him and I had to go all out. It wasn't easy, but I was getting his hand down.

However, out of the corner of my eye, I caught the ichinensei girl I mentioned above, now standing among the crowd of boys. Just as my eyesight caught her, she yelled out, "Breasts!" Having been sufficiently distracted by a 12-year-old Japanese girl yelling "breasts!" at me, I lost my concentration and was beaten. The boys roared in surprise and revelation. As I tried to explain that I'd been distracted, I turned to find the girl was nowhere to be found.

It's a little disturbing to think that my life now includes a little Japanese girl who will randomly teleport into a place, yell "breasts!" at me, then teleport out as quickly as she came.

I really want some dread falls and this is the cheapest I have found. I best start saving up. I don't want to go the full route and get real dreads so i want to try them out for a little and see if I like them.
Make them yourself! It is super easy and only closts about 5-7 dollars to make per fall. there are loads of videos on youtube.

yeah, I'm bumping this bitch. www.io9.com is getting to the future a few hours before everyone else and sending back all kinds of shit. If you scroll down page 1 at the moment, you'll see a) a story about 5 cool short films, including one by District 9's director called Tempbot, and b) a pictorial tour of Neil Gaiman's home library.  :glasses9: :glasses9:

http://www.craftster.org/ - Crafster is essentially my life at the moment. Now that I have learnt how to felt, knit, crochet and sew, I feel like I spend all my life there getting inspiration. The interior design section makes me want to organize my art supplies prettily.

http://www.qwantz.com/index.php - Oh T-Rex! I love you so.

http://www.cakespy.com/ and http://notwithoutsalt.com/ - Excellent food and desert things. The photos are awesome and I wish I was a better cook so I could make these things.

http://www.moreintelligentlife.com/blog/emily-bobrow/dont-you-think-shes-little-bit-young - Eyeopening. It's sad but something that needs to be discussed and brought into the open.

http://www.badassoftheweek.com/ - So BADAAAAAAAAAAAASS

http://www.fancyfastfood.com/ - I love what people can do. It maybe crazy but it's awesome.

That's it for now.
