Delete 10 Facebook Friends, Get a Free Whopper

Facebook's developer platform has been used for a zillion marketing campaigns so far, but this one is actually dead-on hilarious.

Fast-food chain Burger King has created "Whopper Sacrifice," a Facebook app that will give you a coupon for a free hamburger if you delete 10 people from your friends list.

Burger King has put out some interesting campaigns as of late ("Whopper Virgin," "Subservient Chicken"), but this one caught our interest because of how gleefully it pokes fun at our social-networking obsessions. "Now is the time to put your fair-weather Web friendships to the test," the Whopper Sacrifice site explains. "Install Whopper Sacrifice on your Facebook profile, and we'll reward you with a free flame-broiled Whopper when you sacrifice ten of your friends."

The funniest part: The "sacrifices" show up in your activity feed. So it'll say, for example, "Caroline sacrificed Josh Lowensohn for a free Whopper." Unfortunately, you can't delete your whole friends list and eat free (however unhealthily) for a week. The promotion is limited to one coupon per Facebook account.

My Facebook friends had better appreciate the fact that I made a New Year's resolution to cut out red meat. Hint, hint.

We should start a pool:  How long before someone is murdered or commits suicide over
this, causing BK to [attempt to] hastily shove the whole thing back in a closet...

The idea is fine, since a lot of people have loaded their socoal networking pages with people
with whom they have no actual connection, but a lot of other people (somehow, I'm thinking
most of 'em teenagers) will "sacrifice" people they actually know for a laugh...

Feeling will be hurt, people will over-react, there will be drama...  Someone will die.   :angry7:

I call February 2. (The actual death; the investigation, finger-pointing, and program cancellation will take longer.)

What they DON'T know is that the free Whopper will be made from the ten people sacrificed!

There are a few acquaintances I'd definitely consider sacrificing for a Whopper...

I suppose there's nothing to stop people adding each other again afterwards though, is there...? I'm hungry, perhaps I'm thinking this through too much...

I made a facebook account a couple years ago, but never added any friends.  So, if ten people want to sacrfice themselves for a whopper, I'd graciously accept your gift.

I love that you added the small font bit, just to keep yourself safe from the outraged fans ^.^

I like them. the only problem is that they are cooked on the same grill as the meat, so it kind of make the whole thing pointless unless you just eat them for the taste, or those who just are trying to not eat factory farm meat.
