I think Bandcamp's amazing regardless of security. The beauty of it is that you're able to set the price and you can pay MORE.

So here's the deal...I'm not going to send a memo, I'm just going to write this instead. And rather than hinting at the fact you or somebody you know has gone out of their way to "fuck the system" let us just agree:
Anything that plays through your computer speakers can be "ripped", period and there is NO "security protocol" that prevents that. By choosing to put Amanda's music on Bandcamp, we accepted that some people could use a utility to download the 128k stream.....ooooo, how special. Listening to music like it's from a fucking tincan, AMAZING. When the awesome folks at Bandcamp built the site, they accepted that halfwits and fucktards would breathlessly point this out to them as some sort of security issue. Guess what folks, ALL music is already free on the internet. People herald Trent Reznor as being some sort of tech/music Genius-God just because he ADMITTED this simple fact; this thing labels and managers and even artists are trying so hard to pretend isn't there. This isn't an elephant in the room, this is an elephant that smashed through the fucking wall and the house came down.......so what do we do, now? Myself, Amanda, Bandcamp....we choose to put our energy into building tools that let fans remunerate the bands that they love, not into building inherently flawed security systems to restrict the music in one infinitesimally tiny corner of the web. So really, steal it. Steal it in fucking shit quality and brag about it. And yah know what? We won't lose sleep over the people who go to great lengths to do such things because they have no intention of purchasing the product or supporting the artist to begin with. No matter what, they'll find a way...or maybe someday, they'll just grow up. But I'm not counting on it and I'm certainly not going to play this game any longer.
