Much as I generally hate to agree with the Republicans, in this matter I probably do.

I don't feel this is an area where having that level of government involvement would
be constructive.  Better to ensure significant support of non-government agencies,
such as the Corporation for Public Broadcasting and National Endowment for the Arts.

There is a place for direct government action with regard to the arts, but I feel it would
be more appropriately (for example) an arm within the Department of Education devoted
to arts-education (and similarly focused efforts within existing agencies and departments).
