I'm tired of redying my purple streaks all the time and I want to dye them with a more permanent, burgundy brown color for the winter. Does anyone know the best way to do this? It's bleached and then colored with Special Effects. Do I have to let it fade out to pink/blond before I color with regular drug store hair dye?

Thanks!

Things to fade it out:
- wash your hair more often... stop using conditioner if possible
- don't use any type of color protectant
- drench your hair in vinegar and let it sit for an hour or two... wash afterwards (doesnt do much)
- wash your hair with dish detergent (the powdery kind)... make sure to condition after this

I had special effects purple and did all of the stuff mentioned above. after, I dyed it a strawberry orange concoction that i made with a tube of red clairol color enhancer and a tube of clairol strawberry blonde. my hair turned out with different shades of orange and yellow (because I didnt bleach, but I did keep the color on 2+ hours), but overall it went through a dramatic change from dark purple to bright orange.

Is all this pravana stuff more US than UK?

Because Directions hair colour is probably one of the best in the UK.  I dyed my hair pink and purple over 2 months ago and it's only just starting to fade.  I use Tresemme Colour Protect shampoo and conditioner and it's incredibly good.  One of those products that actually does what it says it will.  And when I want to change the colour of my hair, I use Head and Shoulders, which strips most of the colour out of it, then put a load of 12% peroxide bleach to do my roots and the rest of the colour and voila :)
Yes its pretty much US thing its the best you can get unless youre talking Elumen which would be number one but so mega damn expensive.

Its so expensive because Elumen is an actual fashion color that's permanent  it's the only color I know of that can do purples pinks oranges anything you name in a PERMANENT way.
With that being said I can get it but its like 25 dollars a bottle =[

If youre curious as to what Elumen color can turn out ^^ those are the winners for 2009

Also I am actually dying my hair as we speak!
I am using 6M as my Base and will be putting in Red highlight

Itll be the darker one :D
and itll be the red red one !

I want to cut my hair short again, and dye it blonde. Also get a lip piercing which has nothing to do with hair, but it's a thing I want and it sort of goes with my blonde short hair.

I'm totally getting itchy. My hair has grown out pretty well and it's mostly natural color (something that hasn't been seen since 1997. Seriously.) but have been thinking about going black again with magenta this time. Weeeee.

I can just do that by sniffing the hair dye before I start. ;)

If you let me know what level you are color wise if you have permanent color on top already and the undertones I could help!

Level meaning how dark is your hair now (if you post a photo in natural light like go outside i could figure it out)

Get a blonde wig, wear it around for a couple days, and when you realize that red is
better in every way, you can just ditch the wig.    O0
(Before anyone gets her panties in a twist, I admit it might be different for people born blonde.)

I'll try to take a photo of me in natural light tomorrow, but it's still pretty much the colour that's in my DP, if you can see it?
On this:

I'd probably be about a 5.
I have a permanent dye in it atm, it was red, but it's faded to fuck, hasn't been dyed since January, I think.
No undertones...?

Even if it's horrible, I'd like to try it and it's easy to cover up. :)

Alrighty if youre a level 5 you have orange red undertones. How light were you thinking about going and what do you hope to achieve?

I can tell you how to lift your hair properly and how to tone you just need to let me know how light you'd like to go.

Also as a rule of thumb, hair color NEVER removes hair color (like boxed color) you always need a lightener(bleach) to get your hair a level lighter.

Another thing with that being said if you'd like to go like three shades lighter and its really been a year since you've colored your hair you can do that you would just need 30 vol. developer and you'd need to know how to apply it correctly otherwise you're going to get hot roots like a bitch.

I want to go as light as possible, really and I do know that might take more than one bout of dying. I was expecting to use bleach, I just don't want it to destroy my hair. I found a tutorial online: http://haircrazy.info/beginner-guides/bleaching-your-hair/ ...should it look anything like that?

Also. Thank you <3
