Melbourne brigading at the Corner, 2009.
« on: February 25, 2009, 09:36:31 PM »

Hi, I'm new here.
I've searched and I don't think anybody has posted anything about a melbourne brigade.

So yeah, I wonder if anyone wants to do some brigading outside the corner in Richmond this tuesday?

I'm into contortion and I can twirl ok aswell. I've never brigaded before though.

Thanks xox, Cat.  :headbang:

There was a bit of discussion in the australian thread but nothing's been organised.
I don't really have any special skills but if you have something in mind I'm happy to do some speedy learning and help out! If not I was thinking of something going along the who killed amanda palmer theme, setting up a crime scene or funeral or something along those lines

I wish I was there! I'd love to perform again. The few of us who actually came out for Amanda's New York show were all different killers. Walking around telling people that we did it. I think that in Atlanta there were mourners and people falling out on the sidewalk playing dead and doing chalk outlines of each other. If it comes together please post pics! I'd love to see it.

Ooh both of those sound great! I really hope something does come together, I'd love to be involved in something like that.
Thinking about the corner, there's not too much room around it really. So we should do something compact
Actually there's a bit more room than I thought. Probably not enough for corpses though

crime scene sounds awesome. we can do our best to fit corpses, it just makes it all the more funny.

one of the stories by niel has present day amanda going back in time (terminator style) to slay 2003 amanda by way of swords and fencing.
i have black & white 2003 tights n stuff... that would be a fairly easy thing to organise cos it doesnt really need much rehearsal. costumes the biggest thing though...

but crime scene sounds good too.

if you get enough people, you could totally have a pile of "dead bodies" laying on the corner, with people in victorian garb 'mourning' over them. Passers by would be like "what the crap?" and you could just sob and tell them Amanda Palmer is dead.

Ooh yeah, that was a great story! I could maybe put together a modern amanda palmer costume, depends which outfit though. Was there a specific one in the story? I'll check. Would we just set up with one dead amanda, one standing over her corpse with a sword? Or both dead? I wonder if we can find a decent looking fake sword. We could hide it in a bush outside the venue or something if they're not happy with us bringing it in.

I also like the idea of just corpses and mourning. Either would work.
What time should we start? I have a friend who said she can get there at around 5:30 who'll probably be happy to help out. My other friend might with a bit more convincing and I can get there at any time.
Hopefully we can recruit some more people. I'll make a post about it in the melbourne slumber party thread.

Easy way to make a dead Amanda is to cover her face with a veil. As for the sword, extra shiny duct tape and cardboard can work wonders.

though you don't have to go that far really. With are "I killed Amanda Palmer" ring there were four of us, each with different, simple weapons. Mine was a pair of scissors, Jordana's was a rubber ducky (shoved it down amanda's throat), Nicola's was a noose, and (rob?)'s was a pair of striped stockings.

Remember, she's weird! it's her trademark (seriously, have you seen photos of her house? She's amazing at the creative clusterfuck that goes along with keeping EVERYTHING that inspires you), so you can be weird with the concepts of her death. :o)

I actually have a fake spanish rifle!
it's really pretty.

i really like the pile of corpses idea. but yeah i don't think we have enough people.

with the swords i was thinking all out fencing, it could be pretty fun. especially if the swords breake. but yeah it wouldn't work for very long like, not at all something we could keep up for hours.

Maybe it would be fun (and easy) to just have anyone who wants to turn up, turn up as any amanda palmer with their choice of weapon and we can all go around attacking each other. cops and robbers/cowboys and indians style. some people could be walking around with chalk and outlining the dead.

ooo it could be like scarecrow tiggy! so once you die you need someone to like, draw a chalk outline around you before you can come back to life. and by the time they open the doors there'll be a chalk outline medley all over the footpath lol. it'll look crazy.

so for that idea i guess everyone just has to bring a weapon and some chalk.

what do you think?

we'd have to get the word out though and set a time.

it all sounds great... just be cautious about the weapons idea as it would be a shame to have you all arrested for being an armed mob
