spin of the world
and on, again, to spring
like a bright machine
that runs on magic,
pieces of broken
and well-settled stars,
the moon's visage caught
between changes,
meadows marching through
velvet tunnels to the sea
and the sun that waits
below the surface
to shoot fire into the clouds
gathering over the hills
like halos

the roaring sound
of the highway
duels electronic crickets
from night to morning
for mastery of the hill

Good to see people back.





I am returning
to the city
where I lost
my love.

My heart fills
at the anticipation
of the dread I will feel
about not seeing her,
in the night streets
filled with couples
who are not us,
holding hands.

Oh Boston,
the ghost of our kayak ride
will always run through
the Charles, splashing
deep underwater,
no sound, no ripple.

We could never agree
on the right way to steer,
whether to approach walls
from an angle, slowly
or quickly, directly.

and now I come back
to retrieve all overturned:

It was a long time ago, but
I've put on my diving gear, held my breath
and stepped into that wreck

I've bumped my head along the hard edges
and run my fingers through the soft insides

Oh, I've studied the emitting waves,
plotted the data along a graph,
tried to reach maximal output

With my eyes closed I'd recognize
the geography, the paths, the mountains

And when you come to that place,
where I wasn't gentle,
where I broke it all to pieces

When you look through scope
and survey the damage,
lover of my ex-lover,
do your best to remove
what I left behind,
to patch up the holes
with the tools that you have.

Shut the doors,
the windows,
the gates.

Tell the mailman
you won't be accepting
any more mail,
that the box is full
and you're trying to sort out
the junk.

Leave your friends at the door,
your enemies on the road.

Turn off the lights.

In the darkness:
only you.

Listen until you cannot anymore
to the sound of the person
you've spent your entire life
running away from.

your words curled up
from an imaginary cigarette
lingered, and disappeared into the air.

when I least want them,
they return, the smell of them
on my coat, my hair, my face.

the times i wasn't good enough
burn the back of my hand,
the inside of my lungs.

i want to breathe easy again,
i want new air,
i want to get rid of this addiction
that torments my blood.

if a poet
writes a poem
in a forest
that no one reads,
is she just a sad
lonely, narcissistic,
dismantler of words?

If a tree
In a forest
full of rings
that are singing
Inbetween
Bark and knowledge
Isn’t heard
Is it just a bunch of dreams?
