Strange site instead of the shadowbox

So, I use the notification by email (when there's a reply on a topic i watch, i go an email), and sometimes, when i click on the link, i get this:



it does nothing special, but... well, in case of, just wanted to tell :)

I got that yesterday and thought my computer had one of those horrible viruses that make an ad come up when you type something in but then I did a virus scan and it came up with nothing.
But yeah. I got it too.

i clicked on the image, and then they told me my computer was full of viruses... and then, they started to scan it this way :


you recognise windows xp, don't you? too bad I'm on Linux   ^-^

Do people actually write viruses for linux?

I know nobody used to bother creating them to work against Macs, but that's been
changing lately.  The downside of an expanding market-share...

A virus in a UNIX based OS is different, its just the concept... not actually a virus.

I've had that pop up on a few different sites. It is spyware and the scan they are supposedly running is just dumping their spyware on you.

The instant it pops up -- hit ALT F4 to close it right away (or x it out).  I've ran scans multiple times after that pops up and everytime I'm clean still.

good news and bad -
good news: the fact that you got this when coming to the shadowbox was just coincidence.
bad news: it's previously installed spyware that hopes to get you to install their "spyware removal" or some such variation. the "anti spyware" stuff you're looking at is actually part of the scam......

Firefox won't even let me on here. I have to use IE to get to the 'Box.
