Whoever brought up this thread is an idiot. He's gone. Old news. Why bring up an old thread just to communicate your smugness at not being annoyed by him?

I'm happy for you and your delightful insightfulness.

I would like to state, that I was not aware it was a moot issue. Or I wouldn't have brought it up. It was not meant as a smuggness thing at all. It was my first time back on the box in a couple weeks, and within minutes I just came across another Alyss issue, and it burned me, that instead of just skipping over his annoying post, I have to read pages of Alyss warfare.  It was more of a question as to why it WAS such an issue.

I guess for me, having been the victim of Alyss type people and worse for a good portion of my younger years, I got tired of letting other people have that much effect over my life and emotions. I've spent more time on this subject than I ever intended too...

I was/am not attempting a higher than though post. I just get heart broken to see that many people get that bent out of shape by something insignificant. Its my way of viewing the world I guess. I'm definatly not perfect and I don't have shit anywhere near right.  So dont put tooo much stock in it guys.

LMAO.

I am glad Regina put it into her own words and in a song. I came upon it obscurely one night ten years or so back, I think it headed a chapter in a book or something. I've carried it with me as a little reminder now since freshman year of highschool. It is the first thing I ever decorate my work/living space with. Its a great quote.

But jeez, if I had to tell you how many times I've had to say where it actually came from, shit, If I had a dollar, I might have fifty by now.
I just like it. It fits for a lot of things. And it serves me well in life.

I understand everybodies point. But the people in control, cannot get rid of some one because some members of a community can't let him be ignored. Its humanity for crissake. We dont shoot the annoying kid in class. We carry on with our lives, some better than others. Reality isn't going to be suspended because we are typing instead of talking, choosing to log in instead of being forced to attend. So long as you provoke him, or feed his game, and he responds exactly like you expect him to, and you get angry because he did exactly what you thought he'd do.......It doesn't make alot of sense to me.

The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results. You are all playing the game perfectly on this one.

Everyone has something to contribute. Everyone. I dont care either way. I love this forum because its ok to disagree with a lot of you here, and most can sit and talk, and clearly write out points. Its a great way to broaden your own mind. I don't like boxed in thinking.....
I could really care less concerning his staying or going. I am not a fan. But, from an univovled perspective, both sides of this little war are guilty. Make a topic post.
A petition if you are that very serious. If its all that bad here. I do after all take long breaks. I dont know all that goes on.

Have every shadowboxer who wants Alyss gone sign it.

In order to sign it, you must leave a personal statement as to what he has done to personally effect your life so bad.

Power of the community. If enough REAL reasons show up......then action would have to be taken I assume.

I think my views on this are fairly well articulated, he wasn't just being disruptive, he repeatedly broke the rules of the place in which he was being disruptive. You tolerate a little kid yelling in a supermarket or an annoying kid in class, but if that kid starts breaking things and harassing people, the relevant authority gives them adequate warnings and then kicks them out and it's their choice as to whether they permanently ban them. Usually they'll talk to the childs guardian, but in this case the offender was a grown ass man and as such should have known better. You don't have to get everyone in the class or in the supermarket to sign a petition, that's a waste of time and entirely irrelevant.

I WOULD LOVE TO MOVE THIS OFF ALYSS.
This is more in general to why I disagree with the theory in just this post, not the situation it arose from.

Yes, thats generally the case. But the people in charge. The teachers, moderators, have a hard time doing their job with the one problem child, when the rest of the class feels the need to get involved. Its hard to sort out the facts. The emotions. The underlying cause. The source even.

If a community, school, group of people have a strong problem with a person, instead of bitching and making war every time it happens, collectively the group or community should approach the people in charge as a unified front with coherent reasons.

My idea of a petition, was just that. Present the people who have to do something a coherent list of why this makes everyone's life unbearable as a community. The other best option is to sit back and let the people who can actually handle these things, handle these things.

It was an idea that was a mean to an end, because the only other ideas I saw were Over and Over a) Fight with him, b) just hope they do something in time.  Not gonna sccomplish alot, if the situation meant as much to all of you as it seemed.

As adults ourselves, or damn close to it for most of us, to logically approach the people in charge as a collective whole with well listed reasons, because the situation was not being dealt with at a level satifactory to those involved and felt they had a stake in it. Is to me, the only thing that would have probably gotten the issue seen to sooner.

it baffles me that this discussion continues. alyss didn't contribute anything to the forum. i can't understand anything to the contrary. it's bullshit. how can you say you miss him here? he was mean to people and was a troll who didn't do anything but beg for sympathy so he could abuse people. there is NOTHING GOOD that can come from him being there, and i believe in that so much. do people want controversy and obnoxiousness? it's fucking bullshit. i don't agree with the ridiculous overanalysis of this. alyss = troll. it's that easy.

But I think that's what we have done. He was perpeptually annoying, some people got upset, some people complained and then Beth dealt with it. That's all there really was to it. This place has moderators like any other forum because we can't always collectively come to a unanimous decision, sometimes we need a higher authority to handle these things. I was never gunning for Fergus to be removed permanently, I didn't make a fuss when he acted like a dick or did something upsetting to someone, I accept that all communities are going to have people that not everyone is going to like, but now that he's gone I don't think there's any good reason to question Beths decision.

And I think I'll leave it at that because as others have noted it's not really an issue which requires any further analysis. The only reason why I'm arguing with you about this is because I have the kind of personality that requires me to argue with people about things that don't really matter, and I dislike people with uber-antagonistic personality-type of the person in question, and also I'm a little bored.

I've really got nothing at this point. The situation was handled here, and thats all that matters. I def. don't think the judgement call to boot him was a bad one, nor do I question it. I had not realized the situation was handled when I commented. I believe in moderators for just these reasons.

Please argue any time. I do like a good debate. And you make your points well. Thanks for clarifying in the process your thoughts on how it was handled, I am not around as much as many people here, so probably also miss large parts of the story

At this point, I'm with Jesse...

I mean, I wasn't all that put out with Alyss' shenanigans, but they were ongoing, and they were
disruptive, and he was warned.  I think he did contribute to the ongoing flow of ideas and assorted
nonsense that makes up our little community, even if I would be hard pressed to say exactly how...

This isn't a "there but for the grace of God go I" situation, since no one else here has been such a deliberate
irritant on a 24/7 basis (almost literally).  This isn't the Stasi or the CIA making a dissenter disappear.
