A basic painting of a familiar photoshoot.
« on: June 10, 2009, 03:24:47 PM »

I haven't painted for quite a while, not since before I went into my first year of uni but I loved the photo from the fashion photoshoot, felt I had to get back into it. It's really nothing wonderful, cheapest card, cheapest paint, but I'm happy with it. I like using block colours and a threshold type style, sometimes it feels infantile but there's nothing wrong with enjoying the most basic methods of painting, eh? :)

Oh, and the little marks and scratches are from transit between Edinburgh and home, I'll paint over those soon enough. Wish I'd taken a little more care with it! I'm going through more photos of Amanda/Dolls to do a similar style of painting, and maybe introduce some new methods. Any ideas? I need to find a way to pass the long summer hours!

I really like it. I think the block contour is wonderful for its simplicity. It reminds me of a screenprint.

Thanks everyone, any kind of art I've done has been mostly simple. Dunno if it's my lack of skill with complexity or if I just prefer the aesthetics of simplicity. Either way, thanks for the compliments! I am in awe of some of the art here. I'm an avid lurker, apprehensive poster, but I have to say some of the stuff here is so impressive. Wonderful place to share art. :)
