Okay guys, I finally get to post here. YAyy.

I know it's only my first day, BUT IT WAS SO AWESOME. And I love my boss. I don't lovelove him, because he has a pretty wifey who is also my boss. And their daughter is soo frikken adorable.

I ENJOY bussing tables. I ENJOY smiling at people and having them not think I'm creepy cause it's my job to smile. My boss's dad kept commenting that I smile too much. YOU BET I DO.
I HAVE A JOB.

My tips were 20 bucks and I get paid next week. *dances*

and you know, the mullet guy whos 20 years older than me hitting on me wasn't TOO bad. I mean, I said we could be friends. :-D I'm a nice waitress lady.

family owned businesses rock.

^ You sound like a spectacular waitress xD In my new world order, you can take people's orders. And rule Japan, if you like. I smile at people a lot in my job - I'm glad I have a smiley job too xD

Wow.
So we made bucks, and I can totally feel it. In my feet.
I almost cried ONCE and luckily my bosses are awesome and noticed when I was overwhelmed.
I learned on the spot SO frikken much.
I'm SO proud of myself.

I did a table of eight. By myself.

The band that played was good.

And though I'm really glad it's over and that I'm sitting, it was a good night.

My girl-boss hugged me. And told me she was so glad I was there. And that made me feel super super good.

Oh I got mega comfy shoes, from Nativearth. They're awesome.
But my legs&feet hurt nonetheless because hey, they're feet.

My first day I got thirteen blisters because I didn't have proper foot wear and I was on my feet for 7 hours.

I work in a department store. It's ok. For the time being.

I'm in a prickly situation now-slightly. After moaning all last autumn about not getting more responsibility/challenging duties, they put me to run the Christmas shop. I did well. They liked me doing it. So now they want me to go for supervisor position. I got a (small) raise, which no one really gets at the moment as it's "recession". My manager has "plans" for me.

What they don't know is that I'm going to university next autumn and obviously, will at least switch into part-time. I feel a bit mean. But I can't really live for them.

^ Aaah, that sucks :( The council are happy to keep me on their books as a relief staff member until I tell them I'm not any more, which means I can tootle off to university and then come back in the summer and tell them to give me work xD

They will probably still keep me. I'm just a bit nervous of the discussion where I reveal this...

Also, I feel a little bit satisfied of the situation, as the manager who wants me to be a supervisor didn't like me that much before. I think it's mainly because now he's seen I'm useful, and if he developes my skills it will look good for him... So it's all strange office politics

currently i work at a healthy dog place in west hollywood. it's really cool and i love the people but i get SO BORED because i work in doggy daycare which is very fun (usually) and spend all of my 8 hour shift mainly with just dogs, which i dont mind but when they're all really well behaved and sleepy it gets boring cause there's no one to play with or anything, so i usually listen to music, draw, or play out of my logic book...my biggest issue is that i dont get payed nearly enough for all the extra shit i do and it pisses me off, hopefully at the least i'll be getting more hours next month so i can actually pay rent AND bills because right now it's not cutting it (but i actually blame that on my hubby's dumb ass bass player for that one)

i also just had a job interview at the denny's down the street, i should be hearing back this week if i get to do a tryout or not and i really hope i do because i REALLY need the money...if i do get it i'll be working the late night shifts which i'd like actually, but then i'll do that and go directly to my other job and then back to denny's again with only a couple hours in between to sleep, but not enough since i'd have to wake up early to catch the damn bus...

When you tell them, start with "I've been thinking about this for a while..." and not "I decided a year ago..."

If they think you've known for a long time, but didn't bother to tell them, it's worse than if you were waiting
until you'd made a final decision about school.

For that matter....  do British companies do employee tuition assistance?  Maybe they'll help you pay for school....

They wouldn't, no. Some might do, if it's related to the area directly and it would be an employee who is appreciated and been there for ages etc etc.

But I'm in retail, which is a bit crap, and this is why I want to study, and I'm going to study psychology, which is not really directly related. But I don't think they'll be very upset really.

The store manager at my job has always treated the guys really badly - tons of them are leaving/have left because of him.  He used to treat the girls a little better.  Not anymore.  One of the girls must have done something to piss him off and now he treats all of us like shit as well.  So yeh, I hate my job.

I'm trying to decide what to retrain in so that I don't spend my life stuck working casually in retail, but it's not easy.  I want to make sure whatever I study this time around actually has some employment prospects so I don't wind up in the same situation again.

Picked up applications for the local co-op food store and Barnes & Noble.
