Favorite Visual Artists
« on: July 21, 2009, 05:33:01 AM »

So I felt like there has to be a thread about people's favorite visual artists, but I did a quick search and turned up nothing, but I thought it would be interesting to see other people's favorites, discuss, share, and post some pictures and links. (also I hope this thread is in the right place, I figured it belonged here more than anywhere else, although I did consider 'everything else' as an option - I figured it's not Dolls or Amanda art, so I'd keep it out of Art & Photos)

Sooo I'm rambling sort of - - I'll start with some of my favorites.

1920s-40s tabloid photographer WeeGee, there's a pretty vast amount of work by him, but it's not super-accessible unfortunately. Here are some examples I just ripped from google images.

MAN RAY! (needs no introduction)

Alphonse Mucha
I want a tat based on this some day - it's gorgeous

Okay so now it's your turn to introduce me to all the beautiful things that make you happy . . . aaand go!

Maybe you should specify 'visual' artists in the subject title. Just a suggestion.

Anyway, I'm really into photography so I have to mention Gregory Crewdson and Chris Jordan.

I'm big on photo too - if you haven't noticed. Sandy Skoglund (my avatar is one of her pieces)

(this is called Fox Games - not sure on the title of the other, if you dig her try to find one of hers called Cocktail Party - great)

Also love David Lachapelle

(his stuff is really better viewed in a larger format, but if you go to your local Borders or Barnes and Nobel they probably have Heaven To Hell, def. look through it)
and Diane Arbus.

Cool, I like the first two but David Lachapelle is really creepy. As for the last one the kid on the left is what I imagine Barrack Obama looking like as a child.

ryan, i have a whole set of those JOB ads.  they're gorgeous, aren't they?

of course, my favorite visual artist is me, simply because i feel i hold a level of understanding and empathy for me that other fans of me somehow seem to fall short of.  : )

also i love r. crumb and alison bechdel.  what an amazing body of work; both of them.

I have the complete Dali Taschen book - it's really sick, shows his original sketches and stuff, really interesting. They're surprisingly small in real life though.
