Jesus Christ people, can we stop trying to rip each other's throats out, please?

Some people want to hear her cover her, others don't. Everyone is entitled to an opinion, don't bash others because of theirs.

The topic was created as a discussion topic, not a bashing. If she does cover her and you don't want her to, don't listen to it.

Let's grow up a little, okay guys?

Oh yeah? Well for every day that Amanda doesn't cover Lady Gaga - I'm counting that as a victory for Team No ;)

all you haters are missing the point.
It's called "Just Dance"
not "Just think about the meaning of life"

It's not meant to be deep, it's not meant to be poetry.
It's supposed to be dance music, and it does that pretty well.

It's not the same as Amanda's music, but it's not supposed to be the same. That's like comparing cartoons to arthouse films.
To be honest, if I went to a club, I wouldn't want to dance to Amanda's music, I'd want to dance to Lady Gaga.

Things I hate: pretentious jerkwads.

You ever notice how Lady Gaga is not on Kidz Bop? It's because her lyrics are very sexualized. I read an article in New York magazine about this famous public school chorus (that apparently Perez Hilton praises). The kids wanted to sing Lady Gaga but the music teacher/chorus instructor could not allow them to because the lyrics were way too perverse for 5th graders to sing (New York Public Schools and their parents wouldn't have it, I'm sure the teacher would've been fired, which was something he was concerned about).

Anyway so to compromise he said no to Pokerface but did choose another song, maybe it was Just Dance, I don't know, and he changed the lyrics around a bit so it was acceptable for them to sing.

I find this to be the problem with a lot of pop music... just generally, and especially in the last 10 years. The lyrics are so raunchy, innuendo heavy and perverse but the music itself is so catchy and up beat that people disregard what is actually being said. This is why Alanis Morissette's cover of "My Humps" worked - because it slowed down the music enough so that you could actually hear what the lyrics were. And people were entertained at it being sang like a serious song... and that for months people really fell in love with the original song at clubs and on the radio without actually paying attention to message that was being sent.

This thread, the back and forth of it, was all in good nature as a joke. Inside jokes between me and Musings (and others) especially that most of you don't understand, yet it was fun for us to be playful with each other on a topic so stupid and unserious.  Then Amanda Palmer read this thread and was amused that it appeared to be a heated debate (even though if you look at the first 4 pages - which were the only pages at the time Amanda first plugged this topic - there really is no debate ) and now so many people are coming in here to this thread and either don't understand what was going on before they showed up, or taking things out of context.

Don't you think there are better things to argue about, to have discourse on? Of course there is. But there's something entertaining with mock-fighting, mock-teasing and playful chatter.

It's an on-going joke that I'm not a fan of Lady Gaga. If you follow me on twitter and have been for the past 3 months at least, you'd know that every where I go I seem to be followed by some sort of Lady Gaga song or reference. This happens with pop music all the time sure, but I don't listen to the radio, watch MTV or go to dance clubs. She is just there... everywhere all the time. And I don't like that, the feeling of not being able to escape from the kitsch, the redundant pop song, the musician/recording artist that I don't particularly enjoy listening to. And so I'm the poster-child of Team No to Amanda covering Lady Gaga because of that - it's funny and because personally, I have no real interest or benefit of Amanda covering her. Amanda could cover Pokerface and my world won't change in the slightest bit, but that doesn't mean I support that idea.

So, long post short - Just Dance no, just shut the fuck up. This thread is stupid. Everyone can be pro or con Gaga - it doesn't matter, but stop being assholes to each other. Have fun for what this thread is, and if you can't well then don't bother reading or replying here.

My friend and I requested Amanda play Spice Up Your Life at a show in Melbourne, but to our utter disappointment, it did not happen.
I will take it as a personal insult if Lady Gaga gets covered now while the Spice girls were completely shunned.

So, if Amanda would like to be responsible for making me CRY, then by all means, cover Gaga.

Oh no, people are having a semi-serious discussion about the merits of a kind of music. EVERYONE MUST BE TAKING EVERYTHING TOO SERIOUSLY! THE WORLD IS GOING TO END!!!!1!!!!

and i don't know if anyone has seen this, i recently stumbled upon a rather interesting ladygaga interview on youtube, where she actually doesn't seem to be stupid or shallow at all:

part one http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hdt3V9D-CvM
part two http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p6ZuCmdrTBQ
part three http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q4E-vP7Mwgs

(sorry i forgot how to embed)

I don't think anyone was suggesting that she was stupid and/or shallow, merely that her music is.

that's why i was so surprised she had so much to say about it  :buck2:

Who thinks it's time to bring back the green text?

Fuck Lady Gaga - Amanda should obviously cover Nickelback's catalogue. In it's entirety. At every show.

Yes I think it is time
