-if you drive long enough in one direction, you'll hit water.
The average New Zealander lives at least an hours drive from the ocean.
For me it's about 10 minutes to the closest beach, 20 to the best one for hanging with friends.
That's so cool!
The unfortunate part for a Long Islander is you either have to pay money to park (especially in season), or the rich folk bought up all of the beach.
At least there are a few beaches that aren't too far and are easy enough to get into.
you have to pay to park at a beach? Stink.
During summer, it's just first in first served, if you can find a park, you gun for it, it's quite scary sometimes haha.
We also have the rich problem of rich folk, but only with their huge houses taking up what used to be parking spaces, but the beaches are still public land, except for the rare beach which falls on their property land, in which case you're not allowed to access the beach, but some rick folk are nice and let people anyway.
