Long Live the Punk Cabaret Silkscreen
« on: August 29, 2007, 09:37:10 AM »

This is something I silkscreened while at camp. I did it the hand cut way, for those who know about silkscreen. I'm considering buying the materials at home and doing it here. I made a million posters of it, shirts for my friends, and am making it into a pillow.

Oh look! Closeups!

And while we're at it, here's my silkscreened jacket of awesomeness. Dolls are on the front.

The way I did it was based off my vector art of the same picture. I printed that out, and put this green film with a plastic backing over the paper, and tape it down. Then you spend about an hour cutting hard enough to cut through the film (but not the plastic) wherever you want the ink to go. Then you adhere the emulsion (green shit) to film and wait for it to dry. Peel off the plastic backing and tape the edges. Put it the screen on the material, squeegee paint over it and then lift up to reveal the masterpiece. This process was done twice for this because I had two colors so they were separate screens for the text and the image. Then for shirts you iron them inside out for 5 minutes to heat set. Tada.

They had it at camp. I'm considering taking this up as an at home hobby, but it's a little pricey.

Emulsion costs about 65 bucks and then 20 for adhering liquid, each screens around 15, and none of those are reusable. Then a squeegee, and not to mention the actual silkscreening ink- that stuffs like 20 bucks. And manual labor is fun to.

Haha, no. However, there are about 15 of these in existence, so if you're my real life friend, you might just find yourself getting one. Start sucking up suckers.
