please answer the question:
what was g.w.bush's worse mistake as president?
you may also include a mistake made before 20 jan 2001
discussion on answers welcome
A point of semantics:
-the comparative form "worse" implies that there are only two possible answers.
If I might presume to rephrase the question for you:
what was the worst of g.w.bush's vast assortment of mistakes as president?
My initial thought was his choice of running mate co-president, but that happened before
the election, and someone else probably made the choice for him.
that was and remains my answer to the question i started this thread with:
choosing cheney as vp was g.w.b.'s worst mistake
his second was listening to cheney too much,
and letting cheney have too much independent power
cheney/rumsfeld/wolfie were all likely to play some role in g.w.b.'s
administration, as they had served in prior administrations,
and were still not too old to serve
sadly, they were among the more hawish and less thoughtful of g.w.b.'s father's advisors.
e.g. brent scowcroft would not have advised going into iraq
cheney/et al advice lead us into iraq,
limited resources to really solve the problem in afghanistan,
curtailed civil liberties,
etc.
one of the iotas of respect i have
for g.w.b. is that he said no to cheney/et al
a number of times
not clear if there was maneuvering or not by outsiders for cheney to be vp
the news @ the time, was that g.w.b. choose cheney to head his vp search
committee, and was so impressed by cheney's effort that he asked cheney to be vp
