Neither Coldplay or Radioheadare particularly inspiring for me. I don't actually hate either band. I do FUCKING HATE Chris Martin though. But Andypants, you're just making argument for the sake of it. To put in another way what you've said really, is for me to say "Well, I fucking HATE Joy Division, it's like Poo BROWN!OMG!". I can't stand arguing for arguments sake.
All arguments exist for arguments sake.
The point I was trying to make is that it's become somehow cool to rip on coldplay just because they make a particular style of music, when they're actually not that bad. I don't think they've ever claimed to have any intention of making anything other than pop music and so I believe their music should be judged on it's own merits, as opposed to being judge simply for being pop music. Who cares how poppy it is? Who cares if its made for the intention of mass appeal? Is it succesful at being what it is? Does it appeal to a large group of people whilst also conveying simple genuine sentiments? Is it interesting enough to be distinctive but not alienate it's intended audience? The answer is yes to all of these things. Whereas Radiohead, a band which shares several similarities and is much less successful when it comes to actually writing decent songs, is incapable of being criticised just because they play alternative music and define themselves as being different. It isn't cool to voice your distaste for them simply becasuse the style of music they make is more fashionable, even though it's frequently utter crap. Coldplay are more successful within their chosen genre and so they are, in my opinion, a better band than radiohead. Anyone who recognises the former but questions the latter is caught up in some stupid non-conformist philosophy and needs to grow up.
No... Sorry, but no. I would understand how vocal you're being if this was sometihng worth being passionate about (human rights, war, your mother, etc, etc) But this is just Radiohead. They're not offensive in any way! You do seem to stick in my mind as someone who argues a point jus for the sake of offending the people who stand by their opinion. I understand, there are many sides to all arguments, but why do you have to provoke?
I believe music is something worth being passionate about. You may not feel the same way, but then I don't entirely understand why you're here on this forum, why you read this thread or why you felt the need to add your comment to it.
I was merely offering my opinion, this opinion differs to some of the people here, if that is offensive to you, then you are simply intolerant and a bit of an asshole. Who is offended here other than you? I was actually really enjoying the discussion until you decided to add your idiotic little comment. Why does it offend you to consider an opinion that differs from your own? Are you really that pathetically insecure?
I never said radiohead were offensive, I said they're alienating, but why is that relevant? This is a dicussion on the merits of particular kinds of music. If it's not an important topic to you, then I ask again, why did you feel the need to comment in this thread?
I made a comment, then I was asked to elaborate and so I explained my stance. Someone made a rebuttal and I answered the points they raised. That's how a discussion works. I don't feel that anything I've said has been any more provocative than the creation of the thread in the first place, which in itself wasn't even provocative enough to comment on, so what's the problem?
I think it's interesting that you see me as someone who argues a point in order to offend people, when the only people in this thread to have used personal attacks of any kind were MultiplyDivide (whom I ignored because she actually had some relevant points aswell) and you. I argued my perspective to add something to this discussion, that's all. If you really have a problem with people not all agreeing on topics and simply want people to sprout acceptable established opinions about things I would encourage you to either get off the internet and cut off contact with all people who don't parrot your ideas back to you or just stop being such a wimpy douche.
I think this is your problem to be quite honest. You seem to be very easily offended by things that you give the impression don't really matter to you. But then maybe you just don't like the fact that I criticised radiohead and for some reason you are incapable of coming up with a response that expresses your opinion on the subject, so you decided you would just make a cheap personal attack against me. In any case you can shove your personal criticisms up your arse.

(By the way, if you found this post offensive that isn't a symptom of you'r wimpy insecurity but rather a response to you being an asshole and offering unecessary personal criticisms for no justifiable reason)
