That's interesting. There has to be some decline in health, though, even if it's just that he'll die twenty years early.

20 years?! The dude was 64 when that story was written and still in great health.  If he loses anything it will probably be less than 5 years.

I think you'll probably be just fine.  If they can't put you out I think you should stop worrying about it.  Think of all the extra free time you'll have!

Oh, wow. When I was reading the article I didn't catch his age. That's amazing.

I wish I had had someone here monitoring me for this whole span. I'm almost at hour 106, and the current guinness world record for the longest period of time a human being has intentionally gone without sleep not using stimulants of any kind is 449 hours. I'm nearly a quarter of the way there, and I've been taking sleep aids!

contact the guinness world records right now!  You'll destroy the record...

stop taking drugs.  If I'm right and you are the rare type that can function indefinitely without sleep than the drugs are just wearing on your body.

hey uh, what happened?

I asked him awhile ago, he said he eventually fell asleep after they gave him a shitload of drugs. Now he's back to normal. I think, I haven't heard from him in awhile.

Yeah, that's pretty much it. Probably about a week after I posted in this thread, a friend who sells various and sundry items of questionable legality stopped by my apartment, and he gave me one gram of chloral hydrate. The last thing I remember is sitting on the couch, and then I woke up two days later, and had a normal sleep-wake cycle for about a month. Why chloral hydrate worked when the hundred other drugs I tried didn't, I have no idea. I mean, in the hospital they were giving me actiq sticks like they were candy (which, technically they are fentanyl suspended in crystallized glucose, so they are candy, just with drugs) and I still didn't pass out.

I'm mostly normal. I still have horrific bouts of insomnia, but I like to think that it lets me accomplish three times as much as a normal person. It's like, when I can't sleep, and I know I'm not going to for a few days, I just do shit that needs done. I'm months ahead of work this semester, my apartment is spotless, I have a months worth of meals cooked and in the freezer, and I'm slowly but surely building a harpsichord I bought from a kit. It's like I'm fucking SuperSethie™.

That few weeks a few months back was probably the worst time I've ever spent, though. I've had insomnia for years, but that was the worst. I did go see the specialist, and they kept me for two days for observation. They never found anything indicative of insomnia lasting for more than two weeks, and sent me home. Really, though, except for the crushing boredom, the horrible depression, and the pain that comes with not sleeping for an extended period, it was kind of nice. I got two weeks off from work, my own personal chauffeur (my brother's girlfriend took her vacation to drive me around, because I'm a stubborn bastard and everyone knew I wouldn't stay home where I belonged, which was totally cool because she's tons of fun, and probably the only person who likes to shop and drink as much as I do) and I got a lot of done.

Long story short, I'm making the insomnia thing work for me.

C-H is the atom bomb of sleep drugs...  It's not subtle, and it's not terribly flexible,
but if you've tried everything else without success... It almost never fails.  It's
also cheap, so your insurance is more likely to pay for it than almost anything else.
