hola!

SO EXCITIING....

so, the boston pops orchestra, which is, oh, just one of the most celebrated orchestras in the country, has asked me to select their opening selections for new years. they'll be playing (without me) for about a half an hour before my set.

anything goes!!!!!!

we can ask them to play MOZART, or THE SIMPSONS THEME.
for real, they'll do it.

anything classical, anything soundtrack/film, anything standard, jazz, you name it.
if an orchestra can play it (and there are existing charts out there), they can do it.

i was thinking about asking them to play "overture" from dancer in the dark/selmasongs....
and maybe do some orchestral radiohead (i think there are some scores out there).
i also might put a bid in for some mahler.

blue danube? swing music? william tell overture???

hit me! hit me!

i'll check back in periodically and scan.

The score from Rocky Horror? ( I am not a huge fan of the old composers...)

Oh oh oh!

Theme From a Summer Place!
I don't know what it is, but I have such a fetish for that song. I want it played on a loop on Halloween night so I can kill people to it. In slow motion

Think you can arrange "War Pigs" for full orchestra?
No?

Okay, how 'bout some Beatles?  A lot of their stuff lends itself to "big" arrangements.

Dido's Lament by Henry Purcell.

A movement of Gustav Holst's The Planets.

Perhaps some Benjamin Britten.

Love the idea of Overture from Selmasongs, that would be totally overwhelmingly beautiful.

For a long time I've thought you should make a connection with a friend of mine for occassions such as this.

He's a celebrated swedish composer, transplanted to nyc on an extraordinary talent visa, a teacher at the Aaron Copland School of Music, having had his work played at carnegie hall, contributed to soundtracks of sundance official selection films, scored high-profile videogames, and you're both OUT100 alumni.

I'm sure if you needed a song or two arranged for orchestra (blowing your options wide open) he'd be able to help you out. Contact details in your PM.
